Fulmer: Kiffin needs to back up offseason talk

I can't believe the article compared Kiffin to Sarah Palin. That is the most insulting part of the article BY FAR. That is about as back-handed of an analogy as I can think of.

I have always liked Fulmer, but enough this side of him is very unbecoming. If he really cared for his alma mater he would simply say "no comment."

I "had" respect for Fulmer but all the negative comments thats came out of his mouth about CLK just shows he doesnt care for or respect his alma mater, he only cares about himself! Him lobbying for the Louisville job proves that.

I don't understand the Hate that is spewed at the name of Fulmer on this web sight. He was a player at UT, He coached at UT. He's a UT fan and one of ours. Hes gone now. Someone ask him a question and he answers it honestly. I agree If You're gonna talk the talk, then you need to walk the walk. Kiffen will walk the walk soon enbough, just needs time. Fulmer is gone. We let the news paper post little things to stir the pot, and we play into thier hands. Fulmer is Gone, Kiffen is Coach..."THE KING IS DEAD, LONG LIVE THE KING'. GO VOLS and who cares what a paper in Fl. Or Kn. has to say..they aren't capable of being on the field, moreless picking up a ball and playing. ust desk Jockies with an openion that doesn't matter...Let move on..Tenn allthe way. I Hate Fla., Ala, and anyone else Tenn Plays. And I'm all Vol Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, ragardless.
GO BIG ORANGE

Everyone wants to move on but a select few of Fulmerites.

I wouldn't speak of the greedy large former coach if he would keep his mouth shut...

Fulmer gets millions in undeserved buyout cash from UT and is still trashing the program and coaches with all these negative comments. UT should get their money back!

I'd love to see Former get a job at some middling MAC program in a couple of years, and then end up on UT's schedule. Watching him grimace and golf clap his way through a 60-3 defeat at the hands of Kiffin would give me great pleasure.

agreed. if FHCPF keeps runnin his mouth and then he gets a job somewhere, they may wind up on our schedule, i think CLK is way too concerned with winning and with the likes of UF then what some babbling idiot has to say.

Good point. Fulmer has the same relevance to the UT program that Travis Henry has at this point...

please explain to me how he is trashing the program by answering an honest question? Did not hamilton present the contract that had the buy out provision? I love tennessee but if they want to give me 6 mil. I'm in.:).jmho

I'm down with the money. Don't blame him. But have some class and don't bad-mouth the source of all that dough. He got more than he deserved, by far.

With so many state troopers on the sidelines, what kiffin needs to do is administer a sobriety test to crompton before kickoff.

I do not understand the hate for Fulmer on here at all! He grew up dreaming of playing for UT. He goes to your school and was a great guard there. Then he goes through the coaching ranks at UT working very hard his way to the head coaching job. As head coach he brings you a ton of wins and a National Championship. I do not understand peoples DISRESPECT of a coach who has given most of his life to UT at all. He loves UT and has always done what he thought was best for UT. You may not agree that he should still be there, but do not question his love, passion and dedication to all things UT. On a side note, I had the honor of meeting Coach Fulmer. I think he is a wonderful person and a great coach.

How would you react if Spurrier never left Florida and suddenly the program became the most stale and mediocre program in the SEC? How would you feel if Florida only won 5 games then 3 years later only won 5 games again? How would you feel if Florida lost to Wyoming one year and Vandy another and you didn't see any hope in sight for improvement? How would Florida fan react to being 3rd best in the SEC east for a decade? How would you feel about Spurrier at that point, especially if he didn't intend to leave? What if Spurrier brought down Florida that far and he used your 1996 NC as an excuse to stay the course?

It's a lot easier to feel that way about a rival's coach when your program is currently winning NC's and finishing in the top 5 on a yearly basis.

I could see why you would want Phil to stay, one less team for the Gators to worry about every year.

have you not heard that the man bleeds orange?

He's been a vol forever and dedicated his life to UT football. Forget that he has been paid a king's ransom to do an awful job, he freaking gave his life to this program and he puts the team above all else. His comments have just been taken out of context.

Ha... good one.

“You know everybody has the chance to do things their way,” said Fulmer, who is about to be unveiled as a CBS studio analyst. “We were very pleased with what we were able to accomplish during the majority of our time at Tennessee, and we did it without having to be brash and so on. But this is his style, what he thought he had to do.

“We didn’t have a very good season last year. I certainly take full responsibility for that. And now it’s (Kiffin’s) turn to do it as he thinks he needs to do it. But the problem in this league is you’re going to play great football teams every week once you get into the Southeastern Conference schedule. So, if you’re going to be brash, you’d better be able to back it up.”

I really see nothing wrong with this.

CBS studio host Tim Brando recognizes his new analyst’s credentials, and is quick to back Fulmer as the network begins the new season.

“I think in a lot of ways Phil Fulmer was guilty of one thing, and that was hanging around and being successful for a long period of time,” Brando said on Thursday. “When you do that, you have a tendency of saying some of the same things in the preseason and during the season. And in my estimation, the thing Lane Kiffin, to this point, has done is energize the base, which right now in this economy is what big-time business and big-time college football is about.

“It’s sort of what Sarah Palin did for the Republican ticket. Maybe not get more votes, but energize the base of the Republican party. It doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily going to be successful, but if that’s what (Tennessee) wanted to do when they hired Kiffin, that’s what he was able to accomplish in the offseason. Now we’ll see how much staying power he has, and how successful he can be. He’s got a long way to go, in my view, to be as successful as Phil Fulmer.”

Man, Tim Brando is an idiot!
