Fulmer sucked. Always did. Rodney Garner's recruiting, along with numerous dolts being employed across the SEC gave Fulmer a huge surplus in talent.
The Outzen argument is silly on both sides. We'll never know what would have tanspired if Weinke, Heisman winner I might add, had played in that game.
Same goes for this past season. We'll never know if Alabama would have contained Colt McCoy like they did Garrett Gilbert.
In my youth, I once read a wise quote: "Hypotheticals are a playground for morons."
Classic! You have "hypotheticals" spewed all over the "Interview with Coach Dooley" thread.
IF Kiffin was still here...blah blah blah.
No, I don't.
In that thread, I'm defending the spectacular coaching job executed by Lane and Crew this past season.
I'm also defending Ed Orgeron.
It's not a hypothetical when you have substantial evidence. The recruiting class and the performances on the field gave anyone with a modicum of smarts all the evidence they need to determine which direction the program was heading.
QUOTES From Kiffin61
"If Daniel Lincoln doesn't nail Terrence Cody in the tit, we score 13. And win."
"Kiffin was the right hire. If Pete Carroll doesn't head to Seattle, we're sitting here cracking jokes about O, debating the intentions of the latest smack from Lane, and anxiously awaiting the appearence of an offense composed of Markeith Ambles, Kyle Prater, Bryce Brown, Gerald Jones, and Luke Stocker. He would have found a QB, whether it be Simms/Bray/someone else, to perform competently before going after a stud in this upcoming class."
"Yeah, a year and some change coaching the NFLs most hapless franchise followed by turning the pile of slop Fulmer left into a 7-6 squad that, if they had a kicker, beats the national champion on their home turf is a really damning blemish on Lane Kiffin's dossier"
If a frog had a .45 he wouldn't be scared of snakes. Fact.Those aren't hypotheticals. They're facts.
If Lincoln hits that field goal, we win. Fact.
If Carroll stays at USC, Kiffin stays at Tennessee. Fact.
If Tennessee has a kicker, they beat Alabama. Fact.
The Outzen/Weinke argument is silly because nobody knows how much more effective Weinke would have been in that game. It's not as cut and dry as those questions above.
I was happy to see Fulmer gone, but the guy was not a bad coach. Hey, people have the same arguement about Calipari at Kentucky. It doesn't matter how you get it done (legally, not Calipari style), just get it done. Fulmer may not have been a mad scientist when it came to play calling, but he won. I will not bash the man that brought UT a national title. Everyone should appreciate him, and be proud of his accomplishments. He (along with others) made Tennessee matter. Go VOLS!
