He then destroyed that life and left our program in shambles, definatley worse than Fulmer.
Kiffin was one big fat mistake, he did nothing good for UT in the end. What good is getting good recruits if you break the rules to get them? If they leave in a year? If we get violations?
Fulmer did a lot of good for UT in his day, he led us to the SECC and an NC, that is all very good. Did he stay too long? Yes, but he LOVED this school and he bled orange more than most men. I don't think he was arrogant and that is why he stayed too long, he was at the place he wanted to be and loved what he was doing, he simply didn't want to lose the job that he loved.
Fulmer is right. If we had stayed with him instead of jumping on the Lane Train we wouldn't be in such a bad place now.
Would we be on the road to an NC? No, I don't believe that, I'm not even sure if we would have had a winning season under Fulmer.
But I can tell you what we wouldn't have. We wouldn't have had so much attrition among the players. We wouldn't have had the threat of violations hanging over our head and we wouldn't have had to start over from scratch for the third time in a row.
Can you honestly say that we were better off firing Fulmer and getting Kiffin? Look at where we are now!
I wouldn't have given a crap if Kiffin had lost every game as long as I didn't have to watch Fulmer's 1-2-3 punt run-out-the-clock philosophy another year. Fulmer was playing NOT to lose his job. He realized it much to late and his neglect of the program caught up with him. Very similar when Fulmer took over from Majors. Majors had been getting very conservative in his play calling and when Fulmer took over they started airing it out and taking chances resulting in 2 big wins over Florida & Ga. HOwever, after the NC game Fulmer started neglecting the program forgetting what it took to get there, and stay there. We backed in to the SEC CG with LSU and then got it handed to us because of Fulmer's gameplan and conservatism. All of you Fulmerites go right ahead and adore Phil, more rational people know the facts. Phil should get credit for what he did, by the same token the obvious neglect of the program should not be over-looked. How can you really say you want your kids (players) to emulate a coach that is supposed to promote fitness and is fatter than the Pillsbury dough boy & Michelin man put together? He had to wattle/roll on to the field. What an embarrassment to the University, and to himself. Supposedly, he has lost a lot of weight, and if so, good for him. But don't try to put him on a pedestal and disregard the demise of the program. Yes, he best FSU for the NC but then got whacked by them the next year or year before I forget. Hindsight is 20-20, let's move forward from here minus the Kiffin debacle and Fulmer. If you really want to destroy the whole athletic program then hire Fulmer for AD, a position he has no qualifications:realmad: for.
