Fulmer Just BBQ'd Kiffin on CBS College Sports

False. You're using the wrong verb. And he didn't use "his all" for a good portion of his career.

Not trying to start an argument, just a simple question. What have you done for the program other than attend and watch games that have helped the program?

Donated money. Bought tickets. I treat patients at the UT hospital right now. That's all UT's ever paid me to do. I get paid a good bit less than 2 million a year.

Coach Fulmer has 152 wins at Tennessee, 2nd only to the General (one of top 2-3 coaches all time in NCAA) and the punk has 7 wins period in NCAA. Coach Fulmer is a lock to be in the college football hall of fame while the punk will likely flop and be fired at USC or get them into even more trouble with NCAA. Lk is a con man, a snake oil salesman, a joke. He makes me want to puke. It is an rediculous to compare the punk to the legend Fulmer.

If you can take away a single season and pretty much eliminate that which makes the guy's career, he's probably not quite a "legend". And Kiffin has more than 5 wins.

Fulffin debates are awesome because both sides sound ridiculous at this point. It's like debating which cousin you should have taken to the prom. With hindsight in our favor, let's not take our cousin. For the record DD is our fat girl. Now let's go dance season's starting.

So he is like a scooter? Fun to ride but you never admit to your friends that you did.

It is not ridiculous, just some die hard UT fans expressing their views. As long as we understand that everyone has the right to see things his or her way, it is all good. Now I do agree with you and that we should focus on our newest fat girl. Go Vols!

Or a coyote. We can show his resume (face pic) to our friends just don't let them see his record (bikini pics).

I didn't say they were ridiculous for having their opinion, I just think the points are ridiculous because they are both gone and collectively we should be glad.

I understand where you are coming from VOLDad, he may have not been a great "coach" in terms of teaching principals ect.

But he was a great "coach" for a good 10 years when it came to running a winning program. He recruited exeptionally well, won a hell of a lot of games because he had good assistants, and ran a "clean" program:birgits_giggle:

There is no way you can deny that he wasn't good at making Tennessee a succesful program for an extended period, yes the program wasn't down when he took it over but he took it to heights we hadn't seen in 40 years. And for that he deserves recognition.

The facts are that Fulmer took over a solid program that was very stable and loaded with good talent. Fulmer brought in even more great talent and won on that talent alone. He did not have a particularly great staff, in fact it was mediocre. His teams won on sheer talent. In fact, Fulmer did less with more talent than any coach in the country.

In the end, Fulmer got lazy. He failed to recruit well, kept a mediocre staff, which he felt he had to keep on a thumb on at all times. Fulmer was not good at delegating responsibility with his staff and his insistence of keeping his thumb in the pie, led to crashing the program into the ground.

Can any of the Fulmersexuals say that he left this program in better shape than when he inherited it?:hi:

If you take away my uncle's cajones he'd be my aunt..... :eek:k: Fulmer's record at TN is second to one.

Fulmer is HoF. Fulmer is a TN legend. Is he legendary? It's hard to say; even I generally stop short of Legend.

Bob Stoops and Pete Carroll disagree! :peace2:

In '92 the news reports were Phil was doing some behind the scenes maneuvering.
It was reported that Phil called UT Athletics Board member Bill Johnson over 20 times while Johnny was recovering from his heart surgery, lobbying for the HC job.

and probably wouldn't have gotten it if Johnny had kept his mouth shut around his boss

And? You act like UT is just loaded with guys that coached for 17 years when there were 12+ games in a season.

He then destroyed that life and left our program in shambles, definatley worse than Fulmer.

Kiffin was one big fat mistake, he did nothing good for UT in the end. What good is getting good recruits if you break the rules to get them? If they leave in a year? If we get violations?

Fulmer did a lot of good for UT in his day, he led us to the SECC and an NC, that is all very good. Did he stay too long? Yes, but he LOVED this school and he bled orange more than most men. I don't think he was arrogant and that is why he stayed too long, he was at the place he wanted to be and loved what he was doing, he simply didn't want to lose the job that he loved.

Fulmer is right. If we had stayed with him instead of jumping on the Lane Train we wouldn't be in such a bad place now.

Would we be on the road to an NC? No, I don't believe that, I'm not even sure if we would have had a winning season under Fulmer.

But I can tell you what we wouldn't have. We wouldn't have had so much attrition among the players. We wouldn't have had the threat of violations hanging over our head and we wouldn't have had to start over from scratch for the third time in a row.

Can you honestly say that we were better off firing Fulmer and getting Kiffin? Look at where we are now![/QUOTE]

We are were we are now due to Phil letting the program deteriorate. Kiffin did not help things, but you cannot put the condition of this football program on a man that coached here 1 year. The program had been going downhill for several years...

Dooley will not rebuild the program in one year.... It took several years to deteriorate and will take a few years to rebuilt.

Like Phil or not, he did not do the UT program any good his last few years.

And you act like, in 100 years, there will be 15 coaches who will have eclipsed Fulmer (the math will not work; it's hyperbole - before you embarass yourself by trying to look smart)

In 100 years, I bet you the guys with the most wins at Tennessee will still be:

1. General Neyland
2. Phil Fulmer
