Fulmer Just BBQ'd Kiffin on CBS College Sports

People who insult Fulmer blow my mind..

Won a national title, won 2 SEC Titles, yet you guys bash him as much as you bash Kiffin, who promised us 400 different things then left without doing a single thing he said he would..

oh, excuse me, he DID get Crompton drafted.

It really pisses me off that people go so hard after CPF. Yes he had a few bad years and those last few years were pretty painful. Thing is we won a lot more than we lost when he was here. The dude really does love the University of Tennessee. He is the definition of bleeding orange (and in my opinion that's one reason it all fell apart at the end). Kiffin did ok given the situation but the way he left and the mines he layed in his time here make a conversation comparing him to Fulmer a non-starter. The dude had more violations in his first 6months on campus than Fulmer had his whole career.

I have no problem with the fact he left when he did it is what he did on his way out that got me riled. Taking the coaches was fine.. he brought them here in the first place. But the recruiting stuff was just foul. That along with his brash and arrogant attitude (which is totally unsubstantiated by any amount of actual success btw).

Philip Fulmer is a lot of things but he was never as arsehole and he never knowingly did or would do anything to hurt this University. That alone should be enough for the haters (if they are real UT fans) to STFU and let it be. Fact is he was one of the best coaches we ever had if his whole career is put into context.

agreed!

I would love to ask the detractors of CPF, what have they ever done in athletics or life for that matter that compares or betters the accomplishments of this man. I would be willing to bet when this man was killing our SEC brethren in the 90's and early 00's they loved him. I dare to ask the sum total of the money they donated to the university in their lifetime. Further more do they ever consider, this man sweated and bled through 4 years of being on a full ride and playing... "mind you an all-sec type player for the university he loves",,, and they belittle him? My, what sordid and pathetic lives they must lead. To tear down another to give themselves self worth screams of pseudo-pious mentality.

Give the man the respect he deserves or better yet, the respect you'd expect if the shoe was on the other foot.

Kiffin came to Knoxville, took a dump in the middle of campus, spray painted it orange and we all thought it was sooooo f'ing great....then he left in the middle of the night
so that's what that ugly a$$ed statue is .

Of course Kiffin didn't care about UT. I think everyone (well, everyone rational) here knew it wouldn't be his last Coaching stop.

Hamilton put his machinations in place to replace Fulmer as early as 2007. That was the impetus of the new contract - lubrication for his machinations.

With the keys to the entire process, Hambone decides to hire a coach IF his Daddy comes with him. He replaces our second greatest coach for a one-year assistant.

Regardless of how it turned out, the expectation for Lane Kiffin would be to bolt Knoxville at the first opportunity. Would he win the SEC in that time? Would he leave the program better?

Answer is NO on both counts. We have an unresolved LoI. Fulmer was right in Kiffin's "scorched earth" policy especially regarding our traditions. Lane was, at best, a "Fulmer-average" recruiter; certainly no where near Fulmer. Fulmer's 2009 class would have been better for the Vols than Kiffin's eventual class.

Fulmer would have won 9-games last year; he certainly would have won more than 7. Without the Hambone Experiment, the Vols would have gone to a very winnable bowl in 2008 and given Crompton much needed time and practice in a single system.

The Hambone Experiment and all of its supporters are epic fails.

Alot us never thought it'd be his last job, but I'd like to know who thought he'd only be here a year. :ermm:
After the season, him leaving was the last thing in my mind. As much as I hate USC, I hope and pray to GOD his dumbass 'accidentally' burns down every building in on campus, since it won't happen, I'll settle for knowing what is gonna' happen to USC FB program under his watch.

unfettered brilliance right there

He's probably talking about Kiffin because it relates to UT football. As a former player and coach, I'm sure it's pretty important to him. That, and he was probably asked about.

He also said..." Lane never embraced the traditions WE have at Tennessee"......

This is simply a lie.. I don't know Phil could even say something like that...:yikes:

Kitten and Yaw Yaw embraced our tradition.. They were embracing the hostess pretty tight....:girl1:

Layla did a lot off embracing of the guys downtown... just not sure all of it was with her arms..:bottom:

Even Monte did some embracing, his will get us on proibation by the NCAA... He actually embraced watching his defense practice way before he was allowed to... Heck he even let a couple players "borrow" some pads so they could break the rule oops I mean get in a little extra summer practice.. At least kept an eye on them and gave them friendly advice (even though he wasn't allowed to be around them yet)... The 20 hour rule really ticked Monte off... :finger3:

Phil did not want to hire someone who would threaten and take his job...kind of like what he did to Majors.....

I'll actually defend Phil on that. I think that's bogus or he never would have rehired Cutcliffe.

Its really sad to see some of you bashing our former coach, who gave 30+ years of his life to UT, for calling out the biggest A-hole to ever discrace our sidelines for one season. Yeah I drank the Kiffin Koolaid too, but that hangover is long gone. Let me spell it out for some of you

Phil Fulmer = Friend of the Program and one of the best coaches we have ever had (whether you want to admit it or not)

Lane Kiffin = Enemy of the Program and all around first class douchebag

Let the ridiculous "Fulmerite" comments commence in 3...2...1...

Am I the only country boy on here that knows a liitle about cookin hogs? Have any of you experienced cooking a whole hog on a pit? Naw, I'm talkin to a bunch of yuppies.

So, one who hasn't smoked a hog in a pit is a yuppi? Yuppies are worse than rednecks?

Phil did do way more than Kiff but the way more in a good way was a long time ago. When UT is back to those kind of successes Phil will get more respect. In the meantime he's the poster Buddha for a stagnant program.

I am glad Fulmer is gone, but he was very successful overall. He has one of the BEST records of long running college coaches and he did it with UT!!!!!!!!!!!! Having said that, he made some bad hiring and possibly "non firing" decisions that really hurt the program. He let Chavis get away with not recruiting and playing that God awful prevent defense at the end of games. The Clawson debacle was his Waterloo.

I am not one to bash Coach Fulmer. Historically, he will be viewed favorably after those who just remember the years of demise are gone. Most of the people who continually bash him want to fire Hamilton, Dooley, Summitt, Pearl and everyone else in the program. Some of them boo our players with prospects in attendance and bash them in this forum. They say it has no negative affect on prospects' decisions. I don't know about that, but it certainly is not a positive thing when a prospect considers coming to Tennessee. Some people think it makes them look good when they make someone else look bad. I disagree, but that is just me.

Fulmer bashing Kiffin on TV did not make him look bigger to me, but that is his choice. I am glad Fulmer is where he is now, but I appreciate what he did during his better days.
