Fulmer: Josh Dobbs reminds him of Heath Shuler

I knew Heath personally from the time he was toddler. Great guy. Great with people. One of the best athletes UT has ever had at any position. If he had not been a QB then he could have played S or even bulked up and played LB.

But... his academic success was a matter of dedication and hard work. It didn't come easy to him.

Cool, I lived in Bryson City for 2 years and my sister was in several classes with Heath. I attended Tuscola, in Waynseville but our stomping grounds must have intersected.

Dobbs reminds me of a young Michael Vick.

Coach Fulmer has spent his life around football but I do not see the comparison to Shular

I can see it in his movements and decisions.
Of course, no offense gramps, but I have read many of your posts. If Fulmer says the sky is blue, you would tell us all it's green. lol

It is not a secret I am not a Fulmer fan. That post was not a knock on Fulmer. I simply do not see the comparision. I hope Fulmer is correct. Heath was a great college qb. Definitely one of the top 4 in TN history, imo

No offense to Heath, but I have serious doubts that either the real estate venture or the U.S. House would have happened without the football success. He didn't name it Knoxville Realty you know.

Off topic, but is was fascinating to hear Heath talk about how Cut coached. He said he never encountered such a perfectionist.

Footwork, timing, alignments had to be perfect.

Often the offense would make a big play and Cut would come on the practice field screaming because of something as minor as a lineman taking a split 6 inches too wide.

He's black and plays QB, that's where the comparison between he and Vick stop. Mike Vick ran a legit sub 4.3 and had a ridiculously strong arm. Not very accurate but he could sling it with a flick of his wrist.

Both being black has zero to do with it. I think Dobbs and Vick have a very similar playing style.

Guy put together a successful real estate company and became a congressman, yeah, he's a real dumbass.

Being a congressman is no indication of intelligence. Just look at the majority of those in office now. Many of them truly believe that all science, not just sci-fi literature, is fiction and that even gravity is only a theory.

Except for the fact that Shuler isn't, well, known for being the sharpest tool in the shed. I like the guy a lot, but Dobbs seems on a whole other level between the ears.

you're right, he's a ******ned moron.

it sold for 1.45 mil btw. he's got a sweet senior level gig at Duke Energy; and get's to coach his kids every weekend.

intelligence and success are measured at varying levels.

sorry man. one, if not my all time fav Vol. anybody talks about Peyton, Dale, Heath, or EB. we got problems ;-)

Shuler was an outstanding QB. He was a good runner--pretty strong and tough, but Dobbs is a faster and more elusive, better in space. Shuler was a significantly better pocket passer than Dobbs, but Dobbs has two seasons to improve, and I'm sure he will.

No, Shuler was probably faster and much stronger.

Honestly though, intellect was not his strength, especially when you compare him to guys like Manning and Clausen. But Bradshaw was a dumbass, and he has four rings.

And when it comes to arm strength, you are not going to beat Tee Martin.

I don't know who remembers this but his freshman year Majors said the next QB was going to be special and at that time he said Shuler was the best athelete he ever had or played.
