screw everybody on here who is downgrading fulmer. If it were not for philip fulmer than Tennessee and Mike Hamilton wouldn't even have the ability to hire an all-star staff like we have now. He did more for tennessee football than anyone else could ever do.

There is a General rolling in his grave from hearing that statement

I'm glad Fulmer was there. You know he will always be a vol. It was time for him to stop coaching at Tennessee. As for him gong to the games that's great! What I read in Vol Nation sometimes he is more of a Vol fan there some people here!

I actually work in the Greeneville Commons you wouldn't believe all the rednecks I see drive through there. I love my town but damn there are so many idiots that live here.

You are right, he inherited a program loaded with talent and left it bare. If you're too blind to not realize that after the 98 season he became complacent, lost disclipine on his team and to be honest, the success he had here had more to do with Cutcliff then Fulmer.

Why, because some of us don't kiss Fulmer's ass we're not really Vol fans?Maybe you didn't realize that UT actually played football before Fulmer ever arrived and was pretty damn successful at it also. Some of you might think Fulmer is UT football but he's not, and I was a fan long before the hand clapping and gum chewing Fulmer was coach. He's loves the Vols no more than myself or countless others on here but he almost destroyed something that I love so forgive me if I have no sympathy for a poor millionaire who is still receiving money from this university for not doing a damn thing.

Not just Cutcliffe, but guys like Mike Barry. Our OL was never the same since he was gone. After 98, Fulmer hired some turds for coaches and hung onto them forever. Can't remember the DB coaches name now (brain not awake this morning), Pat Washington, Greg Adkins, the list goes on.

I'm from Greeneville too. Been in Knoxville for 11 years, and won't be leaving, but Greeneville is a great place and I sometimes wish I could move back.

Being 100% objective, fulmer took a good program and made it great in 6 years. Then he took his foot off the gas and let it go down the toilet.

He deserves credit for winning a national championship. He also deserves credit for making the program an embarrassment. You can live off past glory forever, it was time.

Finally, and most importantly, fulmer is not the end all be all of Tennessee football. Do you really believe that? If so, go get a history lesson on Tennessee football.

Larry Slade, Jimmy Ray Stephens and Greg Adkins are some of the worst assistant coaches we've had.

Those guys had a talent for getting less out of more. And yet they kept hanging around.... thank God those days are over.

loaded with talent would only have gotten him through...let's see started in 92 so about 94-95 most likely. That success up to 98 goes past that so he had to have brought in some talent of his own

He recruited alot of talent in the 90s and dominated, problem was that when UGA and the SEC west schools stepped it up in the beginning of 2000s, he just wasn't able to match it up and overcome that level they all rose to

wasn't Lovie here under Majors? Look back at some of the coaches that were here in the mid 80's to early '90's & it's impressive who made a coaching stop here

yeah i agree. alot of later great coaches came through here at some point or another.

Majors was at UT though in 77-92, and lovie smith came here and coached here as the defensive backs coach from 1993-1994.

So they just missed each other

I guarantee you that when asked, Fulmer will take credit for any success this team has because he will say "most of those players out there were my boys."

To that I would say no, no they aren't Fulmer. Those players are NOT the same boys you recruited and coached. Sure, the jerseys and names are the same but I can guarantee you that the players wearing those jerseys are NOT the same boys you recruited and coached!

and i would say: the man is gone. why do you all still care so much about dragging him through more dirt? Just because a dead horse might twitch every once and a while after you keep beating it doesn't mean that you're justified to beat it some more...
