This is a great opportunity for Fulmer to get face time with a bunch of quality sitting head coaches. He can talk to them straight up, with no agents in between them, and see if anyone has interest. If he gets turned down a dozen times it wont be some big media event for each one and both sides can deny any contact occurred.

Why would Davenport be there for Peyton?
Doug Mathews did say on his Sunday show that Fulmer could interview some coaches while in NYC. He indicated there would be a bunch of coaches there including some who Fulmer may have interest.
Reminds me of how we missed out on Charlie Strong because Phil was being inducted into the Tennessee sports hall of fame and nobody wanted to offend him. So it gave Louisville enough time to counter and we subsequently lost Strong and ended up with Butch Jones
I have a feeling Fulmer is just going through the process so it will look like he followed protocol then just go ahead and hire Miles anyway.
Word is that he was negotiating with Les prior to mounting his take over of the AD office.
The way Hubbs and his bunch are talking, change Miles to Steele...
Would certainly be a disappointing end for all this to end up with Steele, regardless of the staff he gets.

I'm just hoping for, but not expecting, an overwhelming hire.
Will be quite disappointed if it's yet another underwhelming hire.
At this point, I'd settle for just whelming.
