Fulmer has contacted Tee Martin (Feldman)

Yes. Bigger rumors. Lots of rejections. Dave Doeren rejected us for 5 years at $15 million under Currie. Let that sink in. P5 head coaches do not change that often unless there is already a connection there from the past. Fulmer knows that.

Let what sink in?

Yes, Tee & Phil talked in the last 18 hours & Martin told him he’d be interested in a few different positions

Good, just hire Tee and be done with these other coordinators. If Phil is really going to roll the dice on UTs future then might as well be with one of our own.

Good grief. This is Phil's 4th full day on the job and there are several very good candidates on the market. Fulmer would be a fool to only consider Tee.

If we have a coach by the 10th, everything will be fine. Slow your roll, people.

no one has a clue about anything, including what Tee does or doesnt do.

just be happy we a) have a guy who knows how to tie his shoe - Fulmer b) he isnt Currie c) Tee may come home.

Per Chris Low:
Phillip Fulmer and Tee Martin spoke extensively by phone Tuesday morning, and sources close to Martin felt like it was a positive conversation moving in the right direction. Martin played under Fulmer and quarterbacked the Vols to the 1998 national championship.

Leach>Tee

We got rejected for $3 million a year. That's 25% less than CBJ was making. We probably offered a 50% pay increase, and he said no. We are not going to get a sitting head coach with the budget that Fulmer has been given. He does not get to decide what we spend.

I would throw $10 million at Petersen, but Tennessee has made it clear through their actions that they are not going to spend over $7 million per year and would like to get it done for $5 million per year.

He knows the budget and is interviewing coaches that will work for TN within that structure that he has been given. That is my take. Could be wrong. Hope that I am.

Tee is OC in title only. Helton calls majority of plays and probably develops the game plan.

Please quit comparing Tee to Kirby Smart.
1) Smart WAS DC under Saban and coached the defense. Very clear watching bama play. He was DC for several yrs.
2) Smart inherited a program that was averaging 9 wins a season under Richt with a lot of talented players on campus. New coach at Tennessee isn't going to have that luxury.

If anything Kirby was dc in name only. Everyone knows its Saban's defense. Kirby was an assistant that got the job to do what Saban said. That was his only dc job. Coaching #1 classes under Saban, running his defense.

Tee does more than Kirby did at Bama. he chose to put Darnole in when the other coaches wanted "experience."

He sets the game plan and calls most plays with some input from the Heltons.

In fact he is just like Kirby. Coordinator at a big school that gets input from the coach. A great recruiter and hot name that would bring in highly ranked classes to their Alma Mater.

This is hard to imagine. Tee has done nothing but move up, even under different head coaches. I'm not buying it.

Leach ran when the situation became toxic. They offered Gundy more than $5mil.

You say you hope to be wrong? Well congrats you are!

Do not want as a head coach, not even remotely qualified... as OC possibly...

>Best experience is partial OC duties for 2 years with a loaded offense.
>As mentioned, doesn't even have full OC responsibilities at USC.
>No other programs want him.
>Scored an 11 on wonderlic (trying to be nice here, so I'll just say that is very bad).
>Elite recruiter? Maybe but he's at USC... hit the easy button and a 5 star pops out.

BUT he did play QB at UT in 98 right?

Would be an overwhelming failure and in 2-3 years Tee/UT's relationship would be divorce pending.

Looks like he gets to have complete control of his offense.......coming home.....

I really want to be supportive and this is in no way being critical of Tee, but have we been looking for a head coach who is told what he can coach all along?
