Better Tee than Tucker. I almost hate it for what it would likely mean for his long term career but he'd get set for life at worst.

Let's get it! "..have fun winning championships!" - Living legend Phil. It feels like 1998!
Go Vols! Make it happen!

This is all getting a little odd. Does anyone else something bigger may be happening? Why interview 2 DC's today for the 2nd time and then a report comes out that Tee Martin conversation was positive.

I’ve been thinking the same thing. Any chance Phil is actually helping put a staff together? Maybe some of these discussions are about assembling a staff for a head coach that’s already signed. (i.e. Les Miles)

I don't want him for head coach, but that definitely needed to be done by Fulmer. Hope it was to gauge interest in the OC position under one of these defensive-minded coaches we'll probably be hiring.

Doubt it’s that. Fulmer will not interfere with the Head Coach hiring the staff he wants.

Better Tee than Tucker. I almost hate it for what it would likely mean for his long term career but he'd get set for life at worst.

I watched Memphis fans beg their AD to hire a beloved former Tiger, Larry Porter, who had been SEC recruiter of the year and had been part of an SEC staff that had won big. Despite some successes, his resume was thin. Coach Porter was hired and from day one he was outmatched. Loving Memphis wasn’t enough. He simply wasn’t ready for the big chair. It was a disastrous hire, nothing went right, and it nearly destroyed the man, to say nothing of what it did to Tiger football.

I don’t have a clue if Tee Martin is ready to be a head coach or not. I’d love to see him come to Knoxville and have great success. But I don’t want to see him live what I watched Larry Porter live. That would be awful.

Tee is OC in title only. Helton calls majority of plays and probably develops the game plan.

Please quit comparing Tee to Kirby Smart.
1) Smart WAS DC under Saban and coached the defense. Very clear watching bama play. He was DC for several yrs.
2) Smart inherited a program that was averaging 9 wins a season under Richt with a lot of talented players on campus. New coach at Tennessee isn't going to have that luxury.

If it's for hc then it seems we had bigger names using the last AD

Yes. Bigger rumors. Lots of rejections. Dave Doeren rejected us for 5 years at $15 million under Currie. Let that sink in. P5 head coaches do not change that often unless there is already a connection there from the past. Fulmer knows that.
