Well, people have been calling for new coaches all year and now that it HAS TO HAPPEN everyone is acting like its the end of the world. I am encouraged by CPF taking the time to look outside the family and believe that with all the bad stuff that is going on there may actually be a silver lining. Think about it we probably wouldnt win a championship next year no matter who stayed. However, a new staff can come in and give the players a year to learn the system and two years from now when we should be stacked they will know the system and be ready to take off. Hopefully!!! :rock:

For all those who want to 'get rid of Phil,' the best alternative is that CPF hires an OC good enough to help UT win championships AND trustworthy enough that Phil would be happy to retire and turn the program over to him after a few more years of success.


If that happens, CPF will become a legend in UT football history. Would that hurt you so badlly that you don't want to see it happen?

I remember something about a saying.....you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. Fulmer can have study hall for the players but he can't make them study. You can blame the SECCG loss on him but the last 2 aren't his fault by any stretch

I would think the reverse would be in order here... The SECCG was mistakes by a Sr QB that try to force something that did not work out...

Cutcliff and company plus TT leaving is not the fault of anybody... It is a matter of moving on to Greener Pastures and was a needed move to boot.... Unless you like playing video games or with Dinosaurs

As far a Study Halls and monitoring Players that is a Coaches responsibility to ensure the Asst Coaches, Players and Himself are aware of any problems in the Classroom... A Player should never become ineligible to play because he skipped Classes. Someone should be held accountable for this... The Worst part Is L. Taylor which demonstrates that you can pass but you cannot play because you did not take enough Core Courses... Who allowed this to happen it is an NCAA Rule this year.... If you get a rule change someone reads it and then insures it is being adhered too... Plain and Simple...

These kids are monitored by the Staff at Tennessee and how this one Slipped through is beyond me... Someone should be blamed and held totally accountable for all of them... It's taxpayer's dollars going to waste and show how poorly the Athletic Department is for handing out Scholarships and not monitoring the situation more Closely....

No, it's not. The Athletic Department is financially self sufficient. They don't use tax dollars. Therefore, the only people who have a monetary gripe are VASF contributors.

I might have know you to pipe in... You don't let much get by you, do you.... Well it is a waste of money pure and simple, plus the fact that there are provisions set forth in the system to ensure that this kinda crap does not happen... That is the point... When in charge take charge... This is not what should be being discussed right now because it should not have happened but somebody is not doing their job no matter which pot it comes from... I can debate semantics all day about the dollars but it is not the point....

Well you fixed that, I do not want to get into the dollars because Cases can be made. But just address the major point of it... Accountability for Academics, or let it go...

In order of accountability for academic performance:
1. The student himself.
2. The academic support staff paid to monitor classroom progress and aid those who demonstrate they need help.
3. The coaching staff.

If the first two don't do their job, there's not much the coaching staff can do. All they can do now is deal with those who neglected their duties. Hopefully, they do so in an exceptionally harsh manner.

I forgot but it should be the Check and Balance system... and the staff should have seen it coming and dealt harshly with it before the fact and not after....

In the staff's defense, I think that they'd rather focus on gameplans rather than one player on a roster of over 100 dropping, or never adding, the right class. I think, too, you're thinking of checks and balances in the wrong way. This isn't like Congress passing a bill and the President checking them with a veto. The student-athletes are required to spend x amount of time in the Thorton Center. They have study time, but they're obviously not making the most of it.

There is a vast amount of support available to these students. If they don't take advantage of it, they are the only people to place any blame on. You either do the work, or you don't. Fulmer can't show up at every kid's door to make sure they've finished up their math hw. I mean, if he did, how would he find time to come on here and see what he "should do" each week regarding recruiting, playing time, game plans, coaching staff, dinner, motor oil, etc.

That said, I don't really understand the Core classes rule. There have been a couple semesters where the classes I attended more closely mirrored leisure studies than it did my major.
