Fulmer gets raise and extension?

No long-term contracts! That always gets a team in trouble. Some drunken fans near me were telling me they "should give him a lifetime contract" if he gets to the SEC title game. LOL!!!!

wow .. I have drank alot on occasions but I am not sure I ever drank that much.. LOL
a lifetime contract..?

He deserves neither...

If his defenders are going to say that 5-6 was an anomaly, then I would counter that making it to ATL with embarrassing losses to Florida and Bama during their down years are equally rare.

Great point...I say let's win the next 2 first...If he doesn't make the SECCG apperance...let's talk "retirement package"...

Makes the SECCG and loses...keep him at current pay plus incentives...

Makes the SECCG and wins...slight raise and incentive boost...

Wins the bowl game (which will be against a top 5 team)...raise with incentive bonuses to match.

Inno circumstance should we be discussing an extension...just my thoughts

No matter how the season finishes, I don't think he should get a raise or extension.

Maybe Mike Hamilton gives him the check in one hand while holding the door open with the other???...

If we win the SEC and beat a top 5 team in a BCS bowl, how can you not give a raise and performance bonus. Think how that would look to any potential new Head coach prospect.

yes, in Fantasyland, he should get one or both.

No extension under any circumstances until he beats Meyer.

If he gets 10 wins then maybe a small raise is in order plus some new "win" incentives for future years. Pay for production.

Some of this decision should be based on "how" he wins if indeed they do win.

Well if we score more points than the other teams, I am satisfied. For goodness sake, we are talking about beating LSU and a top 5 team!!! What damn difference does it make "how" we win?

There will be some that say the 2 SEC losses this year are wiped by the UGA/Arky games...

The same way they got blown out against FL/Bama is the same way they dominated UGA/Arky.

I don't agree with this line of thinking, but you can expect to see that used as a defense by the Kool-aid sippers.

Most are saying that an SEC title makes those losses more bearable. I have yet to see any posts like you described.

Because of the way they lost...

UF shouldn't have been by that margin. The season's progress has shown that Cal isn't a great football team. Bama isn't a better f-ball team than UT... they just killed UT with their gameplan.

BTW, I didn't say he needed to beat LSU to get a raise. I think he needs to win 10. That means he has to win out and win either the SECCG or a bowl.

Rasputin, It makes me extremely uncomfortable when you agree with me.

I like CPF. I hope he can not only make a comeback but take the team to new heights... I'm not one of the folks who finds the negative in everything he does or believes him to be a failure that must be replaced.

OTOH, everyone should be compared to a standard. No matter what he did or didn't do prior to 2005 it is my belief that he should be required to make consistent improvement until he wins the SEC again. Afterwards, he needs to continue to perform at the top of the SEC.

It takes 10 wins to improve over last year.

I don't think what I believe will be the actual standard. I think MH will keep him unless he loses 6... but even though I like him, I think the standard should be high.

This is what I originally said in a post just before that started this discussion. I think CPF should retire, and Idon't give us much hope to beat LSU, if we even get to try, but who knows, it has been a crazy year. If this happens, You have to give CPF some credit for pulling it off. If he is responsible for bad play then he gets credit for good.

I agree that CPF should retire rather than forcing them to fire him. OTOH, I don't think it is at that point. Let's let him finish the season and see how it goes before declaring that he MUST be gone. MH has a good take on that... wait, take the season as a whole.

If they win 10 then you'd be hard pressed to make a legit case that he should be gone. I doubt a good enough case can be made if they win 9.

Any potential coaching candidate should also be informed that this guy got raises/extensions after going 9-4 and also got a raise BEFORE a bowl game where he got outcoached by Tommy Bowden.

I think any potential coaching candidate would look at 2 raises/extensions in 9 years where Fulmer didn't win a NC, a conference title, had a 5-6 season and had a losing bowl record during that stretch would jump at the opportunity to coach at Tennessee.

I would be looking more at what you have done lately than what you did in the past.

Rasputin, Coaches have gotten raises and extensions at other schools for doing less.

BTW, it is probably better to deal with this coach before dealing with his replacement. He is probably already safe for one more year.

Agreed. Let this senseless debate begin after January 1st.

I agree totally. Let's see how the season plays out before we make our decisions.

If winning the conference championship isn't satisfactory, then it's going to be hard to find any coach who can meet, much less exceed those expectations.

Certainly none of the other coaches in the SEC would qualify, nor Pete Carroll or nearly any other coach I can think of.

As far as making decisions, we don't, we just debate those of the people who do.
