It will take years to get this program back up out of the muddy waters of the east, AKA >Bottom feeders.

This year is a wash and next year will be the same.

Here comes the optimistic side of Lex....

While it is definitely obvious that we lack the speed and talent of Florida, on some level it is difficult to judge exactly where we are because of personnel decisions (ie. starting Crompton over Stephens).

No I don't think we have a complete team of world beaters on this bench, but I refuse to believe that Warren, Paige, Jones, Creer, Moore, ect. don't have more to contribute.

The continuous fear of mistakes by youth is a chink in Fulmer's armor.

Cliff Note: We have recruiting to do, but we may be better once every job on the field is open for real competition.

I think most are in it for the long haul and realize there is some work to do.

Maybe not as blunt but I have been saying the same kind of thing since 05. But CPF has always made his way to the middle of the cereal box and found the decoder ring. This year however he poured himself a big bowl only to find he was out of milk!

I agree with the OP and I think every level headed fan knows this. Discipline would make this team look a whole lot better but that isn't going to happen with Phil running the show. The inmates have been running the pen for far too long in Knoxville. The Vols need a strict no-nonsense HC to start the turn around.

Depends on who they get. If they pickup a guy like Butch Davis i think within 2-3 years we could be competing for the SEC Championship.

The cupboard is nowhere near bare. I promise our personnel even as thin as it is, is better than most. Old people are afraid of change. Anyone saying we can't compete without prince phillip here is just a homer at this point. Phil's not the only guy in the world who can recruit good players either. Old people don't like change.

Fulmer would be a GREAT NFL coach. All they want up there is someone who will clap and smile no matter what those overpaid crybabies do. Fulmer is good at clapping and giving pats on the back and thumbs up--even when our QB throws the ball 15 rows in the stands on a makable 3rd down.

I agree the cupboard isn't bare but I disagree that our personnel is better than most. Right now we would only rank as the 6th maybe 7th best team personnel wise in our conference.

BAMA
UGA

UT and OLE MISS in a close battle for 6th and 7th
We'll if you want to go by how they're doing now i'd agree. But if you keep up with recruiting rankings thats not where those teams would be based on a four year average. Go back through the recruiting rankings for these teams for the last four years then tell me what you come up with. I'am too lazy to do it.
UF
LSU
UGA
Auburn
Those are your top four. The rest are up for debate.

Either way we have enough talent to not flat out suck

Amen. Since we are sending messages to Fulmerites today, please note:

It is not losses to Florida and Georgia that placed the rear on the hotseat (though they should certainly be enough). A loss to UCLA is what apparently ignited this fire.

I refuse to believe that we don't have enough talent to compete. I just believe there is a problem behind Phil's whole philosophy of coaching that for whatever reason is not reaching these boys. It could be a problem with motivation, it could be a problem with development, it could be a problem with getting the best out of each player, who knows?

One thing I am seeing more clearly now than I ever have, coach Cutcliff and Rodney Garner REALLY made Fulmer look good during the years they were a part of this program! Take them out of the equation, and he really gets exposed.

I wasn't going by recruiting rankings ( which are way overrated ) just going by how I see teams performing on the field position by position, with a greater emphasis put on the OL and DL positions which are where the really good teams seperate themselves from the also-rans.

I don't understand the people thinking if Fulmer pulls one out of his hat against Alabama that it's reason enough to keep him. I get the full Sports Animal dose on Friday's so I've heard it at least twice already and it's just now 9am.

I'm convinced it is finished.

If thats what it will take to save his job. He should just start packing up now.

We could lose to MSU then turn around and beat Alabama and there will be people out there that will say, "look at your 4 million dollar coach now", "Fulmer showed he can do it in big games", "His back is against the wall", and so on.

I don't understand where these people gather these thoughts, I'm guessing at the diner in Sneedville, but it'll happen if it happens, but I don't think there's a snowballs chance in hell of it happening. You know, if you follow me here.
