I'm gonna try to keep a sperate thread here Mods, one that just contains links or articles regarding the news of the day....

Chris Low broke this news this morning...
Phillip Fulmer, who a decade ago brought Tennessee its first national championship in 47 years, will not return as the Volunteers' coach next year, multiple sources told ESPN.com.
An announcement is being planned for later Monday at Neyland Stadium. Fulmer, who has won 150 games at his alma mater and is the dean of SEC coaches, met with Tennessee officials Monday morning, and they reached a mutual agreement that it would be best for all parties if Fulmer did not return next season.

The sides also agreed that Fulmer would coach the remainder of the 2008 season. The Vols (3-6, 1-5 SEC) have lost three of their past four games and are in danger of posting their second losing season in the last four years. "Anybody that likes Tennessee and cares about what the product looks like on the field is frustrated," Fulmer said Sunday night, according to The Tennessean. In the story posted on the Nashville newspaper's Web site, Fulmer told his coaches in a Sunday meeting to shield the players from their frustration. "It's about our energy, the looks in our eyes, our demeanor and how we approach it in meetings and film sessions," Fulmer said about his coaching staff, according to the Tennessean. "We're professionals and we have and we will continue to be looking forward to playing." There had been increasing scrutiny on Fulmer, who took over full time as head coach in 1993 and has been at his alma mater as a player, assistant coach and head coach for more than 30 years. The Vols won the national title in 1998 and were one of the top programs in all of college football in the 1990s, but the program hasn't been the same this decade. They've lost 31 games since the end of the 2001 season.

The TFPs Wes Rucker is out now as well...
Phillip Fulmer will step down from his position as the University of Tennessee’s football coach at a 5 p.m. press conference today, multiple sources told The Times Free Press this morning. The longest-tenured Southeastern Conference coach will receive an approximately $6 million settlement from his alma mater, payable over 48 monthly payments, according to the seven-year contract extension he signed before this season.
Multiple sources told The Times Free Press that a 5 p.m. press conference has been set in Neyland Stadium to formally announce the news. It is believed that Fulmer and his staff will finish this season, but that has not been confirmed.
The Volunteers (3-6, 1-5 Southeastern Conference) lost 27-6 at South Carolina on Saturday night. They must win their final three games — starting Saturday against Wyoming — to reach bowl-eligibility status.
Fulmer, who led the Volunteers as an interim basis for part of 1992 and took the full-time position in 1993, has a 150-51 career record. Florida State’s Bobby Bowden (.757), and Penn State’s Joe Paterno (.751) are the only two major NCAA Division I program coaches with 10-plus years of experience and a higher winning percentage than Fulmer (.746).
UT has lost 31 games since 2002, though, and the Vols must win out to avoid their second losing season in four years.
The 1977 Vols are the only team in program history to lose seven games in one season. UT started playing organized football in 1891.

The 5pm presser is confirmed..

Tajh Boyd Remains Committed.

Va. Daily Press...
Two days after Phoebus quarterback Tajh Boyd committed to Tennessee, reports are out all over the place that Volunteers coach Phillip Fulmer has agreed to step down at the end of the season. An official announcement is supposed to come later today. Does this change anything for Boyd, who on Saturday said he had been told no coaching changes were imminent? According to Phantoms coach Bill Dee, the answer is no. Boyd remains committed to the Vols, who fell to 3-6 with Saturday night’s loss at South Carolina.
Commitments are just that – commitments – which means either side has some leeway. But as of now, the official word from Phoebus is that Tajh Boyd remains a Volunteer.

That same Clay Travis on WJOX in Birmingham says Gruden is at the top of the list. I don't have a link but listened to his interview. Not sure what he is basing that on other than saying he had a source indicating the Gruden rumors are real.

I do not doubt his love for the program, the school or the fans. CPF honestly believes he could have turned the program around. Again. And I don't think he believes that to make board posters mad. He simply cannot match up with our most heated rivalries anymore.

My understanding is that he told the players last night.

In the interview I heard on WJOX with Clay Travis, Hamilton met with Fulmer Sunday during practice and it was pretty much confirmed then. I would imagine then that Fulmer had a chance to tell the team if this is the case and I can't imagine a situation where he would not do so.

NO matter who we get to replace Fulmer, there will NEVER be another coach who gives more to this school and its fams than Fulmer did.
