BTW, what does this have to do with Dooley? Is his point that Dooley should be doing better since we don't have that kind of turnover now?

This is a pointless thread. Worthless research. Thank Mr. VolPride from TOS for waisting his time and mine as well.

Reading your comment wasted my time. Why is it worthless? It's a quick synopsis of a factual occurence. If you don't like it then read something else imo. :hi:

IMO, it was the combination of a few things working together:

One is that Phil did get a little complacent with things and didn't work as hard that he once did after 98.

Cutcliff left. Huge, huge part of the problem there.

Fulmer replaced Cut with his friend instead of a capable replacement. Much like Cutcliff is a better asst coach than head coach, Sanders is a much better position coach than coordinator and PF should have seen that and took the appropiate corrective measures instead of keeping his friends in high places.

Other teams improved their coaching and recruiting and Phil tried to keep doing everything the same. During the 90's we could show up at any point during the recruiting process and be in the game with pretty much any recruit out there. So if we were late offering or reviewing film ( a Fulmer favorite) it was ok. However all that changed with Saban, Richt, Meyer and Miles. The Donta Hightower fiasco is a perfect example.

I seriously think that Phil won that Championship and he rested on his laurels like that made him some sort of untouchable man.

Lloyd Carr was the same at Michigan.

Unlike Fulmer, Carr stepped down in a classy manner and retired when he realized his time had come and gone. YOu didn't hear a word from Carr afterwards either. He made it easy for Michigan and didn't create any divisiveness as Phillip did in Knoxville.

wasn't greg barnum the center from texas? tons of potential and fulmer had him penciled in as a starter on the offensive line as a sophomore. then, he got homesick and wanted to transfer to a school closer to his family, but fulmer wouldn't give him a release. that was the first time i began to think fulmer was a little too full of himself.

Fulmer failed to sign a good QB, Suggs had a weak arm.
Clausen came in started as a true freshmen to save the situation.
Same for the RB, Travis Stephens was undersized and not that highly recruited. He had to fill some big shoes.

In that class, Fulmer mostly failed to sign a good anything.

That is him. Although I thought he played earlier in the 90's.

yeah, I didn't understand why Fulmer didn't give the release since he was going to transfer to a Texas school. Guess he had his reasons though.

It is darn near 2012! Our fans beat the heck out of a dead horse for gods sake. This was over 10 years ago. I am just sick of the different ways and angles that people come up with to still take Jabs at one of the best coaches in the history of college football. It's time to get over it!

I don't disagree at all with your assessment. I simply think that people haranguing the op will add fuel to the fire.

Oxygen is to fire as is cynical post are to a thread. It just begs for more responses.

WE BEAT KENTUCKY. We scored a few points in the 2nd half. We never finished last in the SEC East.

YOU figure it out.

We lost to Wyoming.

We had to go to 4 OT's to beat KY in 07 and had to have a goalline stand to beat them in 06 and had to score with a minute to go to beat them in 04.

We also lost to Vandy in 2005 with a team predicted to win the SEC and be #3 in the nation.
