Yes it was. I lost a friend in Krystal one night. I don’t mean he died. We were so drunk I lost him. I’m not even sure how he got back to the dorm as he wasn’t a student and didn’t know the way as it was his first time up.

On another night, that place was nuts in ‘98 after we beat the Gators. Couldn’t even walk.

Later, when Buffalo Wild Wings arrived, we tore that place up every Wednesday.

I agree, great place to party.
I was always more of a fan of market square, gay street and the old city. The strip had its moment, but when I attended 2002-2007 I gravitated more to those areas.

So the takeaway is to recruit thugs
There was a period in the late 90's -early 2000's when there was a lot of thuggery in college football. Nebraska, Miami, Florida, Tennessee, and so on. It has tapered off a LOT for the Vols, but there are still a lot of players out there who were treated like hands off royalty in high school and try to carry it over to NCAA football, either not knowing, or not caring that there is a huge spotlight on them. Still, when you think about how many players cycle through their teams in a year, the total number of idiots is actually pretty small when compared to the aggregate.

I wasn’t cool enough to frequent those areas as the only times I wandered that far was when I was already plastered and couldn’t have possibly remembered how I got there. There are vague memories of some bar/club in market square, some bar in the old city and the occasional underground trip, although that was usually high school.
