I don't get you guys. Where was Fulmer going to go besides UT? It's not like he was doing charity work. He got paid millions and millions of dollars just to quit coaching. Get over this garbage about Fulmer sacrificing his life for UT. Fulmer ought to be supportive of UT and CLK but he is neither; instead, he tarnishes his legacy day by day by giving speeches taking shots at Lane and at UT. I most definitely do not consider him a hero.

Fulmer needs to take a lesson from Tuberville and be humble to the university that paid him millions of dollars and allowed him to succeed in life. To act like he is so much better than to be fired for sucking is a joke.

I dont hate Fulmer at all. I loved most of the memories he left. Do I wish we would have won more, of course I do. But in the end, too a kid born in '79..He was the one on the hill. GO VOLS.

The point that all of you haters constantly miss is that in the 90s, Nick Saban was busy going .500 at Michigan State and Urban Meyer was an Assistant coach at Notre Dame (before he took the head job at Bowling Green).

With the exception of Spurrier (whom many consider to be one of the greatest coaches of his time), Phil Fulmer was the most successful coach in the SEC in the 90s.

What are all you haters so bitter that you can't admit that?

Yes, Phil's time has passed, but he was very good in his day. He brought in Peyton along with all the other talent that made the 90s so great.

Majors never achieved the consistency of Fulmer's teams.

Get over it...Phil is gone, so there is no reason to continue bashing him. It is classless and shows your ignorance.

No, I think everybody agrees that Phil was winning because Nick Saban and Urban Meyer were not in the SEC. They are, and have always been, far ahead of Failmer.

No, I'm actually in law school with a BA from UT, but nice try. I like how the "Fulmerites" that have probably never set foot in a UT classroom resort to personal attacks when you say things against their hero.

I never said I thought Fulmer should still be our coach.

I am thrilled with Kiff ,the new staff and the direction of our program. Reminds me a lot of the '94 season. Basically the beginning of one of the most successful runs in Vol football history.

The problem is that a lot of the Fulmer haters have no idea how rare the success UT had in the 90s really is.

My only point is that all the haters can't even give credit where it is due.

If you want to hate on someone, sounds like you should be hating the AD for not making a move after the 2005 season.

He only got Peyton because of Cutcliffe. Otherwise, Peyton would have become the second part of an eventual Manning trifecta at Ole Miss.

Of course Fulmer won so many games in the 90s. The rest of the SEC sans Florida sucked. Florida was Fulmer's only competition in the 90s, and he only beat them once, and got his arse handed to him most of the time by Spurrier. He even managed to lose to pathetic Memphis with one of the most talented UT teams ever.

BTW, 2 of the last 4 years of the Majors era ended in SEC championships. Two of Fulmer's last 4 seasons ended in losing, bowl-less seasons.

The problem with your argument is that I have never said that the 90s was not special. It was an amazing period. I have "Decade of Dominance" in my movie collection just like you probably do. However, I just don't believe in idolizing the man because of one thing while ignoring the rest of his career.

I didn't make an argument; I made an observation, and when I responded with a logical post that happened to not look good on your hero, you resorted to personal attacks because you aren't smart enough to engage in real debate. Bottomline, Fulmer did good in the '90s taking advantage of Majors leaving a stacked team for him, and then when the level of coaching went up in the conference, Failmer couldn't keep up.

Did you watch any of the following games on TV or in person?

1989 Alabama
1990 Auburn
1990 Alabama
1991 Florida
1992 Alabama
1992 Arkansas
1992 South Carolina

If yes, then time must have healed some old wounds.

In 1990, an unranked 2-3 Bama team came to Knoxville to play the #2 Vols and Majors found a way to lose in the last 2 minutes. That loss was as bad as any I've seen in person.

There was no SEC Championship Game until 1992. In '89 and '90 we tied for the SEC Championship.

I guess the 0-6 start in by Majors 1988 team was OK for you?

None of your points discredit Fulmer as a good coach.
