(Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere, couldn't find it on a cursory search)

So, I have been laughing for about an hour now since a friend of mine (ex-Memphis State grad) told me that if they lose to UT on Saturday, they will likely hire Phillip Fulmer. I thought he was joking, at first, but he seems very sincere.

So, let me get this right: If they lose, then they will hire the guy they probably could have beat?

I heard today from some Memphis folks, that UM athletics doenst have the money to buy West's contract.

So I've heard the following Fulmer to such and such school since he has been fired:

Clemson
Louisville
Memphis

I do see Fulmer coming back to college coaching but I don't see it happening this off season.

Why would Memphis State hire a guy who's proven over and over again that he can't recruit the local kids?

we would get to beat him every year.
Why does that make you happy? The guy coached Tennessee through one of its finest decades in it's history and won us a national title. He was over the hill but I dont understand where people will ill will towards him are coming. He may have not known it was his time but he did everything he could to put a winner on the field. As for the rumors I would not be surprised one bit to find him coaching Louisville next year.

I honestly think its Louisville or nothing for him. He can compete in a BCS enviroment, and can be a good coach there, not a great coach.

Fulmer is not going to Memphis.

The top two names coming up for Memphis are Larry Porter and Dooley at Louisiana Tech.

As for not having the money to buy Tommy's last 3 years......you really think if the FedEx guys wanted him out they couldn't afford it?

I'm not sure if that or "Why ITH would PF want to move to the bunghole corner of the state?" is the harder question to answer.

It is a desperate attempt, and false rumor, to pretend that Memphis football will EVER be relevant in the state of Tennessee.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him go to UVA. Al Groh's days are numbered there.

He and Illinois seem like a pretty good fit too.

Fulmer would be  not to take a job at Illinois, Virginia, or Louisville.
I dont think any of those schools are going to be interested though. Fulmer was losing at Tennessee, I don't think another school trying to field a top 25 team would give him a chance.

IMO Memphis would be interested, Fulmer would be a step up for that program. :twocents:
