Fulmer better get control of this thing

Apparently, Fulmer is personally calling local media to try and defend Pruitt. Josh Ward is supposed to be on 104.5 the Zone and talk about a call he received from Fulmer concerning comparing Butch's and Pruitt's records at this point in both their tenures at UTK.

Good, that means Fulmer is feeling the heat.

First, Pruitt has proven that he’s not capable of identifying top assistants. Going forward, Fulmer should interview all assistants before any offer is made. Pruitt blew a lot of money hiring a $175k a year assistant for $650kx 2. Who in the hell does that? CJP got lucky that Helton found another job. Otherwise, UT would be paying for him.

Second, Fulmer needs to lay down the law to the entire staff. Failure to recruit is not an option and grounds for dismissal WITH CAUSE. Get your lazy ass busy, Wienke, Friend, etc.

Third, Fulmer needs to explain to Pruitt (he’s obviously too dumb to know) the impact having a young QB can have on recruiting. No reasonable high school kid is excited about playing with JG. They might be if a soph or freshman is playing. Hell, everyone else in the SEC can get freshmen ready, why can’t Tennessee?

Whether Fulmer succeeds or not is gonna be tied to Pruitt. I doubt Fulmer will hire the next coach if Pruitt gets fired.

“Lighten up, Francis.”

No, good management.
I disagree. Especially with the AD with Fulmer’s history. Again I’m not talking about micro-managing but when the program is in dire straits as it his today and the HC is making bad decision after decision then the AD should step in. Better than making a decision to fire prematurely.

When you have to do one of your lower managers job to get the job done it's time to replace that manager.

Advice fine but Fulmer shouldn't be hiring/firing assistants or making any on field decisions.

Couldn't have said it better. If Pruitt is so incompetent in Fulmer's eyes that he feels the need to handle some of the head coach's responsibilities, then it's time to pull the plug on Pruitt.

I never said Fulmer should hire and fire assistants. I only said he should interview them before they are hired. Pruitt completely blew the OC hire his first year and now less than 2 years later, has completely blown the DL hire. I dont see anything wrong with another set of eyes look at it. Hell, if Pruitt was smart, he might ask Fulmer for his imput, but then we know that aint happenin.....

Depending on Fulmer is nonsense.

Do you really... really believe that any of these coaches were hired without being interviewed by the AD? Not a chance.

So you somehow know what their recruiting responsibilities are and how well they're performing them? I confess I don't. If they aren't doing the job two years in... then there are other issues besides their "lazy ass".

Maybe a Fr is not the right answer? I actually agree that JG is not the answer now much less in the future. I somewhat agree that Fulmer should get involved if he hasn't. But I think you might be ahead of yourself.

Depends on when he is fired. A lot of programs including UT will use Covid as an excuse for this year. And there is some legitimacy to the complaint. So give that to them. I'm less concerned about the legitimate ways the insane virus response has impacted sports and specifically UT football than I am the HUGE opportunity being missed to get a head start on next year's QB competition plus ID and develop some guys that are going to be the future of the program. I think most of us would understand if Fr and Sophs were playing like UT is playing right now. It is the 3rd, 4th, and 5th year players that have me shaking my head.

But if Fulmer gives Pruitt this year and takes decisive action if he flops again next year then that will be seen as appropriate by most. However my prediction is that assistants will be sacrificed after this year. Possibly guys who don't deserve it.

Depends on the severity of the decline in the football program. Fulmer should be strongly recommending to Pruitt a change in Qb strategy. 99% of the fan base and almost all the known sports pundits are stating he has to do something.

I’m not convinced that fulmer isn’t trying to get revenge for his firing. I find it very odd he hasn’t demanded a QB change.

The thing that kills me is UT is paying Ansley 1 million a year to be DC and allegedly he isn't even calling the defense. I've also heard that Pruitt is allowing Friend to meddle on the offensive side of the ball
There's a lot of evidence over Pruitt's tenure here so far, from the first week, that he is, like, WOKE.
