The problem will be too many people will bring up fulmer (and not our 5-7 record last year) as soon as kiffin loses a game.

If the fulmerites promised to never mention fulmer, I'd do the same.

Discipline...I cannot disagree with you here. I still however don't think he handled to overall program much different than any other coach in a big time conference would. As far as Otis, he wasn't booted due to his name.

Character - the man played for an SEC championship just one year ago. It is rare that any coach will just up and resign. Most have to be fired...and who can blame them with the buy outs? Anyone that says he shouldn't take his $6 million is crazy...I guarantee each and everyone of us would take every dime we were entitled too.

Fulmerites??? One of the worst to walk the TN sidelines?...LOL is all I can do at that. The man won the only National Championship I have ever witnessed at UT.

As far as the program, I know it is not where it was in the 90s. I think we all know that. Was it time for something to change? Yes! I think most of us can agree on that.

I think it is ridiculous to say Fulmer was not much of a coach. The man was one of the elites for several years, he won 100 more games than he lost. He missed a bowl game only twice in 17 years.

I liked Fulmer....but now Lane Kiffin is our coach....and I am excited about the 09 season!

I gotta disagree here. We were a national laughing stock for players getting into numerous legal incidents over the years. You basically had to murder someone to get kicked off the team by CPF. There is a reason all the players "loved" him.....they basically got away with whatever they wanted, with no consequences other than sitting out a half here and there. I definitely dont think he sucked as a football coach.....but, IMO, he was not a disciplinarian.

You are right...he was by no means a huge disciplinarian.

He was a good football coach.

Based on any call in show after any loss CPF had. He needed to fired after every loss and even after some wins. As a fan base, we can always tell what coulda, woulda, and shoulda been done. Yet, we are not the ones that get paid to lead the Vols.

The Kiffin bashing will happen...just wait and see. We all as fans want to see the Big Orange win, we are all very passionate as fans.

eh, they'll all come. We should've paid more and gave Butch the associate AD title, we should've waited and hired Shanahan, we should have went after Stoops, Muschamp, Peterson, Patterson, Kelly, Tuberville (yeah, at least one person will say it), in fact, I bet we even get a "Why didn't we hire Terry Bowden, he's leading N Alabama to the playoffs this year".

Then we'll get some that say we should have never let go of Johnny Majors and enough to blow people away that say Fulmer would have righted the ship. He's a good man. Strong leader.

The post was about people on here (VolNation) and now you are referencing call in shows. I am confused?!?!

BTW...The Knoxville call in shows that I listened to were favorable for Fulmer win or lose. It was so bad that I was certain that they had to be screening the callers.

What I am saying is that the expectations from the fan base are extremely high. Higher than they probably should be, but that it big time college football. The first game Kiffin loses may not bring the bashers out. Give him 2 or 3 losses and they will start surfacing.

I am not sure where you think the bashers will come from...I think they have to be either local radio, message boards, or maybe the newspaper guys.
