Fulmer Backers

I don't really think the fans have to take any extraordinary action. Fulmer is doing a good job of ending his career through his own ineptitude. Also, Prince Phillip of Peach Bowls has seen the new landscape of fan discontent. Ask Houston Nutt what a few FOIA requests and the fertile imagination of a scandal loving public can do to one's life. I can't imagine Fulmer hanging on and dealing with an angry fan base.

My biggest fear now is the remaining time that we are going to have to suffer... and the impact it will have on the subsequent seasons.

well I'm not sure if anyone else saw it or not, but as I was leaving a bar on the strip yesterday after the game I happened to drive by The Rock, and about half a dozen people were in the process of spray painting "FIRE PHIL" on it. so if that is any indication then there ya go

That is where Mike Hamilton has to come in. At this point, Michigan and Tennessee in the market for new coaches. Hamilton has to keep the fanbase upbeat about candidates, and most importantly, has to keep potential recruits interested in Tennessee.

This is going to be the most critical 3 months of Hamilton's tenure. He has to get a jump on potential candidates before Michigan takes a guy like Brian Kelly.

I think it will take another 2005 season for Fulmer's un-doing to be complete.

everyone ive talked to is done with fulmer and his coaching. the only people who respect him and still want him here are the old school fans.

football is changing. offenses are changing packages and speed players are being utilized. the train is moving and we're gonna get left behind if we don't hop on for the changes.

im worried that if we have another 2005 season that we'll lose a lot of recruits and then not have any talent to build off of to improve and have a better season.

i think that good coaches do a lot with nothing. Phil has done nothing with a lot.

and this is coming from someone who was fighting for him after the cal loss. but this is ridiculous.

But fulmer is the most winning active coach....:censored:. I was on the fence about him until yesterday and was even leaning toward getting rid of him, but now it has to happen. I give up...:mf_surrender:

I think Fulmer would be ok if he would change his system we have not changed in along time and collage football has, other teams know us well look at other prograns that went down Bama, Nebraska, and now ND AND MICHIGAN look at who is in the top 25. But I think now he may be set is his ways too wary of taking the chance with fresh talent. I for one have given my full support to this program for a long time and have gone through several head coach changes if change come now it will not be pretty. There is several thing that must be thought about whin going to a change Who will make us better? How long will it be before we are a top 5 team agin and will the fan base stay for a long time if the change fails, scary stuff. Is there a person out there who can answer this ? I cant. That's with Mr A.D. and not us I am sure he will do the right things to make the Vols the best they can be one only needs to see our Basket Ball program to know this.

first, the way this thread started off, it sounded like a 1st timer at an AA meeting...."hi, i'm Mr. Rockytop, and i am a fulmerite.":p

i think most fans were on the fence about CPF. there's some loyalty for a lot of us to a guy that truly has done a lot for this university and it's football program.

but, there was also this nagging thing called results that just haven't been that good lately. losing season. bowl losses. loses to FL, GA, Bama, SC, Vandy.....all in the last couple of years. a renewed losing streak to FL.

and not to mention the lack of an SEC title in almost a decade.

add to that, the presumed "rise" of programs like USC, KY, Bama, and FL, LSU separating themselves....you have to look at the current landscape and say..."where exactly are we in this big picture?".

and yesterday.....we all got a big answer to that question.

the gap is widening, it's now evident. no one knows how this season will turn out, but it's literally on the edge of a cliff and could go either way. the optimist says we can finish 10-2. and yes, that is still a possibility.

the realist in me says, 8-4 would probalby be good considering.

and that just isn't good enough.

the oldest form of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again, expecting different results.

well, my friend, we are now at the point where something different is in order.

so, to CPF, i say thank you. you have been great for the program, and have enjoyed watching your teams compete. your record over Bama will never be forgotten, and the 1st half of your career will always be looked on as one of the most successful times in TN football history. you have a street named after you, and you have two conf. rings and a NT ring. thank you again.

but it's now obvious that our program isn't at the level it needs to be and it's time to change directions.

and last night was just a big fat dose of reality, that most of us already knew, but it was confirmed, in emphatic fashion, last night.

Just curious, but what did you see in the Cal game that made you defend him?

I wonder, as a percentage, how many VOL fans think Fulmer should be fired, maybe 75%? Looks to be closer to 100% on this board, but I know we generally have more passion that the casual VOL fan.

Fired, no.

Given a position that recognizes his many years of service, including our only modern NC -- possibly.

Was it Curt Watson or Steve Kiner who famously told Bear Bryant after one of the Tenn wins in the late 60s that his players "seemed to lack that pride in the crimson jersey." Bryant took it to heart.
Bryant went to learn the wishbone from Darrell Royal at Texas -- and soon began Bama's longest period of dominance, including an 11-year run over us.

The moral: put him on notice that a major improvement is necessary to remain as HC.

If UT somehow hires Spurrier, I will remind you of this post everytime you visit our fair board. :)

sorry lexvol....I dont really think that UT has huge problems....unfortunately they have lost to two good teams...not so much CAL but UF no doubt has a good team this year and they are number three in the country. I believe UT can win every game left on the schedule. Time will tell. Its not the coach. Its the players. Yours...and the other teams. UT will play inspired football for the rest of the season without a doubt. Go VOLs.:rock2:

Where is the loyalty to Coach Fulmer. We hit a rough spot and everyone is ready to get rid of him. Why is this??

An Arkansas and Arkansas State fan here that has always had the upmost respect for your beloved Vols and your coach. I am old fashioned, I believe in integrity and lasting respect. Coach Fulmer has earned the right to coach at Tennessee for as long as he wishes.Folk's it's not about winning, but how you play the game. He has proved himself in the past, ride it out with him and the glory days will be back!Go Razorbacks,ASU,& Vols!

My mind has too changed over the past 2 weeks, but that being said, I think we can still win some games this year. UGA and So Caro are winnable although many of you I'm sure feel differently. MSU and vandy should be wins. I'm still not sold on Bama...but Ark should run all over us. We CAN win 5 in conference. The question is...will we?

It's time for a fresh face on campus, but this season still has 9 more games.

Just curious, but were you one of the ones that still wasn't sold on Tebow? Or were you one of the ones that said that Urban's offense wouldn't work in the SEC?

$2 million bucks a year says it is about wins and losses and I wish I had an employer loyal enough to pay me that much money after I led a debacle like 2005.

Im not at all sure what to say, I am devistated at our performance lastnight...im still trying to get my voice back from yesterday.

I also admit ive straddled the fence.....it seems that over the last few seasons the fence was re-done with barbed-wire and we are all bleeding from this.

I am now confident...after lastnights performance that something Huge has to happen. I sit and read all your posts and for the post part agree with a few of you.... "old school" is our biggest problem...we need a coaching TEAM that will open things up...I actually expected CPF to change with the system but he has'nt...this is why I agree that it is time for him..along with the majority of the coaching staff to leave.

I am still a Fulmer backer who is very upset about the state of the program. However, I am still willing to wait until we play Georgia and Alabama before I throw our coach under the bus.

Call me gutless and out of touch with reality all you want, but that is what I believe.

Welcome to reality, Mr. Rockytop. I think you'll find it is a nice place to spend your time.

You know I have tried to remain optimistic for so long and keep believing year after year that CPF was going to get it right. However, yesterday and week 1 against Cal was a confirmation that it's time for a head coaching change, hell it's been time !
