Fulmer's coaching record in his last 50 games is 31-19. UT has not been SEC champs during that period. During the last 50 games coached by Johnny Majors before his firing, his coaching record was 39-9-2. Twice UT was SEC champs. The UT program was in good shape for Fulmer when Majors left. The late 1990's were some of the best for UT football.

It now seems like UT is falling behind most of the other schools in the SEC. Is Fulmer the right person to bring UT back to the dominance it had in the 1990's?

If UT's future and Fulmer's remain intertwined we will never again defeat Florida or Alabama.

Is Fulmer the right person? No, he's the one that has caused this downfall of the program. I have looked at our stats (wins, losses, bowl games, average year end finish, margins of victories and losses) and since 2001, the trend has been down, way down. His time has come and gone. And no more time should be allotted for this train wreck.

I have been a Fulmer supporter for a long time and appreciate all he has done for UT. I know he loves UT as much as anyone. But, we are just not where we should be as a program and we have reach a low point that I don't believe he can bring us back from. Now is the time to make a change or the rest of the SEC will leave us in there dust and it will take a long time to catch up. I do believe right now we have enough talent in place to quickly become a force again with the right coaching change. Thanks for the memories Fulmer. Enjoy your retirement.

Remember how last year a lot of us were ready to get rid of Fulmer after he once again blew it in the SEC Championship game? What was the big argument from his supporters at that time? An upward trend. 5-6 < 9-4 < 10-3. Celebrate mediocrity and this is what you get.

The upward trend these guys failed to notice was the meteoric rise most of our SEC foes were experiencing.

As OrangeTD pointed out, 2002 should have been the breaking point with 2005 being what should have been the last season for Fulmer.

His upward trend was laced with close games that could have gone either way. Right now i'am starting to wish they had. We'd already be into someone else's new era by now.

I was telling someone today, if all Athletic Directors had to look at was a coach's record to determine whether or not to keep him or fire him, then you wouldn't need an AD at all.

AD's should look at much more than just a record. After the 2005, a big red flag on Fulmer should have been raised and he should have been on probation. But just because his record looks good, doesn't mean he is good or that we are good.

We were 9-3 in the regular season last year with a handily beating by Cal, murdered by UF and Ala, and squeakers against Vandy, KY, and Vandy. Is that what everyone wants??? There's more to judging a coach than a record.

In 1999 it was pretty obvious Randy Sanders wasn't going to cut it. In 2000 it was clear to every human on the planet. In 2002 everyone started to think Fulmer was an idiot for not firing. After 2003 Fulmer decided to fire Sanders, but to wait until after 2004 to do it. After 2004 Phil changed his mind. Then 2005 happened. The mismanagement is just mindboggling. Fulmer just cannot be the executive guy. Anyone wanting him to be our AD is insane.

Can we place some blame on poor recruiting? I think we can. Our latest QB fiasco is a prime example. Out of thousands of high schools, this clown is the best we can get? Bye Phil.

Heard that.

As long as Phil beats Vandy, he'll get a raise. Lose...now that's different. It'll be a revolt like no other Volnation has seen.

Its not just the qb.. I am not saying crompton doesnt have his fair share of problems. The whole offense is just playing terribly. Alot of stupid mistakes all around.Clawson phil and all certainly aren't helping matters.
Its just time to clean house. Let all the coaches go.

I can envision a time in the future, were we see CFP in another coaching position and were are all saying, what were we thinking. Now the question is when we ask that question, are we going to be in a better or worse position than we are now.The better being we're smiling when we ask, rather than crying.:cray:

1. If UT fires Fulmer he is done coaching. No one would offer him a job.

2. Losing four games a year at a school with Tennessee's resources is not a tall order.

I don't know about that I can see a SEC school or any SEC want-a-be-school jumping at that chance!

There are none of those left. Every single team in the sec has a coach capable of beating phil. His career is over after his ut stint is done.

you joking! First, he's close to 60 and has been burnt out for 10 years. Second, he's not very astute--which is putting it as politely as i can. Third, I've you watched the team the last several years? Phil has done good things for UT over the years, for sure; he's a good man and as loyal a Vol as there is. Which is why it would be nice if he could retire with some dignity. I think he's wanted to go out with another title of some kind--but of course that would only make him want to stay longer and we aren't going to win another title with him at the helm, that's for sure. It's unfortunate--but the team has been mostly bad for most of this decade, and that's a long time. Even the coupla of good seasons--like last year--were misleading: the team made it to the sec title game last season but it wasn't especially good. It's time for a change.
