Just for the sake of clarification - For those of you concerned about the pricetag on CPF's buyout increasing due to an extension - There's an article on the homepage that states that the contract extension they are discussing wouldn't increase the buyout on CPF's contract. The figure remains at $4.35 million (that's financialese for "not going to happen".)

In a word? No.

Is your name Rusty Shackleford?

I had to Google that one. Then I laughed.:hi:

Praise the Lord!! If that is true then I have absolutely no problem with whatever they want to give him.

Well now, there's a handy bit of info! Thanks GA!

Aren't most contracts designed so that each year a HC is paid the buyout on the contract decreases, which is what would have happened if an extension hadn't been offered? $4.35 million is still a considerable sum.

I think UT should finish 1 or 2 in the SEC before a raise is offered or a contract extension. UT finishes 4th or 5th in the SEC and Fulmer gets a raise and a contract extension? What does that say about the program? Its not like Fulmer is underpaid and needs to be brought up to the level of the other coaches in the SEC. He was already paid more then Spurrier and Richt.

It sounds to me that the AD is satisfied without winning the SEC or playing in the SEC championship game and that a 4th or 5th place finish in the SEC was a good season.

While some cannot see, others choose to not see.

What does a turnaround in 2006 have to do with the last 7 years being worse than the 7 prior to that?

My point to this whole thing was that with such a turn around any coach at any school would get a raise. That's all. Just trying to get people back on point.

In the article I referenced, it states that his buyout is based on a formula where his base salary would be multiplied by the number of years left on his contract + $1 million + 1 year of endorsements (about $1.75 million). So with the last 2 components of his buyout remaining constant, his buyout will never be less than $2.75 million + at least a year's worth of base pay. It will never cost less to buy him out than about $3 million and change and that is only if he gets down to the final year or two of his contract.

My point is that CPF obviously has a good agent and it's not like we're dealing with a number that is going to start approaching zero at any point in the future, so complaining about his buyout not being reduced is somewhat of a nonstarter.

There are a whole bunch of schools where 5-6 will relieve you of the opportunity to oversee a turnaround.

I think the question that begging to be asked is, how much of a raise would you give Fulmer if he had actually won another NC? 2 million? 3 million?

If you giving a raise and an extension for finishing 4th or 5th in the SEC and 17th in the nation what does he get for finishing 1st?

Now you are being silly. Also how many times do you have to be told that there is no extension. Just a raise for a good year. It happens guys. I suggest you get over it or you will be misserable for a long, long time. CPF is going nowhere soon. :salute:

who said he needs to go, he sure as hell don't deserve a raise though. your reasoning has no logic to it beef. it does happen beef and that is the main reason we will never be where we were in the late 90's. average is just fine at UT. hell i guess by your standards he should have got a raise after one of the worst coaching jobs last year in the history of what used to be a proud program. it is pretty much a joke.
