yea thats because he has brought excitement to the program finally in bball and we will probably be in contention for a title in bball next season, but let's not write the football team off here tho, we signed a top 5 class and we have some experienced players from last years team, and from what i hear we have "toughened" up in the middle of that defense and thats the only thing that kept us out of national title contention last season...

are you kiddin me.... the middle of the defense kept the Vols out of contending for a natl title?????

how bout no run blocking, and a lackluster running game???????

At this point popcorn, I want them to prove it. Judging by the last several years, I am very skeptical. True, we had a top 5 class last year, and you definitely cannot do it without the players. But didn't we also have a few top classes and underperform with those?

Yea we did, i didnt really follow that class as much as this one so i dont know how their minds were set coming in, but each recruit from this class has been talking about nothing but winning championships... when they are around each other they are always calling themselves "Future Vols" and "Future National Champions" and it just seems to me that they're mind is set on a national title and wont be satisfied with their college careers unless they win a championship and u mix that with the pressure the upperclassmen and the coaches feel they have for going on a drought without championships and i c a very determined and hungry team which were two qualities that we have been missing the past few years, and again these recruits are ready to come in and make an immediate impact that is y they are rated so highly, not only becuase of their talent because anyone can fork out a 4.3 and make a big hit but it is their determination to win and competitiveness that makes them special with their mindsets on "Championships"... now for that other top 5 class that we had a few years back, im not sure what their mindset was but im sure James Banks had his mind on other things besides football

yea but we could have won those games last year if we were able to stop people from running down our throats

do I hear sheep in the bakground.

shoulda, coulda, woulda.....

think about it... Jamarcus Russel converted a 3rd and 10 by running (and he never runs the football) and kept the winning drive alive... Tim Tebow... i dont need to say anything about that....Darren Mcfadden basically had a field day due to lack of toughness on the defensive side... and Im sure u remember Tony Hunt right? although i think that game was lost when Foster fumbled the ball and they ran it back for a td... so its not really a shoulda woulda coulda, its more like a if we woulda then we coulda

Our problems of giving up long third downs have been consistent throughout the 2000's, no matter who the players were.

Hate to say it, but Chavis appears to be resting on his laurels, too. I don't see the same aggressive defenses that I saw in the late 90's. Don't tell me players are the problem either, as we have been pumping them out to the NFL.
