"It is still the winningest program over the last 75 years in the country. People don't realize that. [And it's] certainly one of the winningest teams in the Southeastern Conference during my time here. We have exciting style of play on both sides of the ball.

I was unaware of this

You're unaware because it's untrue. Still, over the last 75 years, UT has been great.

Fulmer enrolled at UT in 1968, so "since he's been here" UT ranks 10th, which is #1 amongst SEC teams.

I'm assuming he meant to say "one of the winningest teams in the country over the last 75 years," because he goes on to say "certainly one of the winningest teams in SEC," which would make no sense if they are the winningest program in the country but "ONE" of the winningest in the SEC.

Until just a few years ago, we were #1 in winning percentage since 1926, which is the year Gen. Neyland took over the program. We've now slipped to #2 behind Ohio State. We are, however, #1 in total wins since then.

We were #1 in winning percentage from 1926 to 2001, however. So if you pretend that the last five years didn't exist...

Isn't that exactly what 3/4ths of the fan base already does?

(sigh)...Yeah,I guess that's what we do, Hat. We hang our hat (no pun intended) on a winning record based on the last 75 years...same as Army could do if they chose to do so.

No one, including me, can question the phenomenal recruiting skill of this staff, and Phil in particular. If I had my 'druthers, Phil would be named "Recruiting Coordinator for Life" at UT. He's that good.

The problem lies in what he, and the staff, do with that talent. It's an old argument, hashed over in a hundred separate threads. 'Nuff said about that.

When you boil it down, it's a very simple equation, and the product of the equation is the basis of the argument. Top recruiting classes should produce Top 10 finishes. They haven't. So...is the recruiting flawed, or the coaching?

You decide.

Go Vols.
