He is in rare form on the radio tonight. He grilled palardy for his rugby-style punting...which is actually a complaint on dooley for allowing it. He grilled dooley for only offering excuses, and not properly handling that last time-out situation. And, he LAYED INTO the espn producer that replayed the lattimore injury over and over. Yall should tune into sports animal...hyams is pretty voistrous tonight as well.

Rugby style punting is fine! The problem comes when kickers attempt to put spin on the ball. Guess what? Hit it with the sweet spot on your foot (the laces) and you can not only get a longer kick but it wobbles and causes problems for the receiver. Anyone who has played soccer knows this. I should have kicked for UT.

He needs to be. Hell, all former players should be. Just read the twitter posts of former Vol players. They're all pissed off.

I disagree. I don't think rugby-style punting belongs in football. The reason is HANGTIME. They are low, line drive kicks that can yield nice yardage, but net hardly any. The defense has no time to get down there and meet the returner. Just punt the ball traditionally...it's football not rugby

Can you average more than 16 yds? If so, you may get to go to college for free too.

hang time is fine, Ive always been against the side of the foot thing because of the 6 yard punts.

I averaged 40 yards. I finished college a long time ago. If I have eligibility at 33 working on my masters and lived in TN I'd do it. Sadly I'm just a Florida beach bum who likes beer, beach, golf, UCF 20 something chicks, and not getting murdered on the football field.

It's a more precise form of kicking the ball. If you're good at rugby style punting, you can target where you want it to go better than a traditional punting style.

Well, I guess I can see your point. :)

Hang time is made up for moving to the side. When done properly, it makes it almost impossible for the return man to touch the ball.

I used to punt in high school too. The problem was britton colquit was on the team, so I didn't see hardly any playing time. ofcourse he never missed a play. His "shanks" would go 40 yards.
