I agree that a lot of mistakes were made in the game, on both sides but here is my take: what I saw last night was something that I have seen over and over again from previous staffs including out beloved coach fulmer, we have time and time again proven over the years that we do not have a killer instinct, and had south Carolina played us just a little bit better we walk away with a loss last night. I know our coaches want to coach with class and I understand that but when you get up by 35 then I say put your second string in and let them go at it not take your foot off the gas when your up by 14 it will get us beat almost everytime.

I told everyone near me at the game that on the last drive where we needed just 1 first down to win the dang game....."watch the play calling here, 2 handoffs to Hurd, then Josh will keep on 3rd down". Put me in for the next SEC DC opening position.
If fans know what ur going to run, don't u think 6 figure making DC's will know TOO!

It was obvious he wanted to run clock and I can appreciate that, however, the strategy "not to lose" rather than to "win" reminds me so much of Foolmer sometimes I can't stand it. I still think they're afraid that Dobbs will throw an interception that they want to limit his passing. Again there were several times he could have been intercepted but USC didn't make the play.

Nega my sweet..*** How bout we have a multi-million dollar Coach act like it. 3 loses are on the Coach. We came very close to another one yesterday. Take you orange colored glasses off long enough to see CBJ needs to step up his game and the assistants around him. His teams lack discipline and that comes from the staff.
His latest statement about 8 yrs needed was as stupid a statement made in sometime. Earn ya money CBJ. :hi:

I agree with some of your comments, especially the 8 year comment, aka the Houston Cougars coach hasn't taken him 8 years has it? The losses are on the players ultimately but the coaches have to put them in a position to win and at least 2 of the losses I do blame the coaches for' too conservative play-calling and trying to run the clock out. I disagree, I think the players are disciplined; very few penalties overall.

My opinion is that it was a soggy field and hurd and others lost their footing a lot. The WRs dropped a few balls and they were protecting Dobbs and that kept the game cLose.

Cosign. We're a team built on speed and athleticism. A wet soggy field is gonna neutralize alot of our advantages in speed and athleticism.

What's not funny is all the whiners like you that constantly fail to make a positive acknowledgment of anything. Vol fans like you give VN a bad name.

Or what's funny is guys like you that have nothing to say except trying to call names and be rude any time someone questions the coach.

It's okay. You'll be rude for the next coach, I'm sure. Eventually maybe you'll support the team instead of a particular coach.

Rationality doesnt belong in VN. You know that VN is full of current and ex CFB coaches that have won multiple NCs. They know way more about football than anyone on Tennessee's staff.

Then you can understand when folks question your qualifications to have a meaningful opinion regarding D1 football coaching. Right?

The way we started, we should have hung 50 on them! Disappointed in the way we played but sure as heck glad we got the W!

Actually I would say 80% of the SEC games with two teams not light years apart in progression that start out with one team going up 14 pts usually will not win by 50. Most coaches and talent level in this league are good enough to make adjustments (which SC did quite well) and stop what you're doing to be that successful on the front end...NO QUESTION JD was not at full strength and frankly speaking I wouldn't mind if he didn't play AT ALL against North Texas so he can have two weeks to recover and get ready for our last two SEC games...Sometimes I just wish our fan base could understand the whole game and not isolate on one issue...and as far a Reviez saying our coaching was poor(Fuad has a tendency to say things sometimes that are not exactly spot on although I like him personally)...the strat worked and we won....In that situation were we have a lead, have the wind at our backs, have one of the best punters in the nation and a really success cover team the correct strategy is prob to run clock and kick. Is it sexy? NO ITS UGLY...but we're trying to win the game...and if JD gets one more yard on that last keeper...we aren't having this discussion...but of course this is free fire zone and its America so flame away....

No there's 2 plus minutes on the clock, SC only has one time out and giving them that much time would have been disastrous....and with the success that CPF experienced I would take that any day of the week...As fun as it is to sling the ball around and run up the field sometimes you MUST realize the smartest thing to do is run clock, punt, and play defense. Do I like it? NOOOOOO...but in that situation with all the details involved (i'll not take time to list ALL of them) 95% of the time its the right call and 95% of major college coaches will do the same exact thing....the truth is they want to win MORE than any of us so I think they are going to do what gives them the best chance to win...

More board tom foolery. Blame Butch. Blame DeBord. It is not supposed to be an ugly win against a division rival. Butch can only go so far in the SEC. DeBord is too old and too coservative. Why aren't we better with the long list of injuries and a very young lineup? Blah blah blah.
You guys literally and figuratively are the anti Butch. He says the same things in coach speak; some of you say the same things in impatient fan speak. USC is better than their record. We managed to contain Pharoh Cooper and get a win. A fumble got them back in the game. A fumble cost them the game.

Bottom line: we are improving and have overcome a lot of injuries. We can run the table from here and finish with a good bowl.We need for next year more depth to get through the meatgrinder that is the SEC schedule. Championships are won with players 22-80 in the lineup. As someone in this thread correctly noted: college football hinges on recruiting.

I do support the team. It's you that seems to have the problem of negativity with all things Vols and Jones.
You're a broken record.... Your posts are stale and smell of a dead horse.
Regardless of what transpires in the game the only thing you post is Jones this and Jones that. You fail to discuss or acknowledge that plays were there for the taking, but weren't made by the players.. Or the game plan was good, but.....Nope... Just jones sucks.... Jones stinks.... It's never an observation you make.... Only Jones is a loser... Blah blah blah.
Your posts stink bro.....

So to all those bashing Butch, let me ask you this. What is your opinion on McElwain, Wittingham, Fuente, Campbell, Sumlin, Freeze and Dantoni?

I honestly believe there are some on here who just want CBJ and UT to fail. Their posts are filled with what they contend is constructive criticism and their honest opinion. But in reality, their posts are just trash that is reminiscent of worthless, pathetic human beings that just love negativity. To these posters, it wouldnt matter what coach we had, how many games we won or how good we were. Because the first time we struggled when we shouldnt or God forbid lose a game, they would heed the call and immediately start trashing the coach.

We have so many outstanding coaches on Vol nation that are not getting paid a dime for their on the field coaching abilities or their thoughts. Boy, many teams are really missing out. Vol nation is loaded with some of the best coaches in the world. I am thoroughly impressed.

Judging by his three year resume thus far, I think it's more likely than not that Tennessee's coach has gone as far as he can go. You can look up plenty of facts that shows my reasoning.

That's odd, because it appears win totals are increasing every year under Jones, not stagnant or in decline.

What "facts" are you using to suggest that isn't true?

I'll take a stab: They don't mess up as consistently as Jones.

So what? The fact is all of those guys lost games they should have easily won. So obviously those guys suck. I guess I should have thrown Saban and Meyer in there as well.
