From What I Have Read On Various Boards

Birmingham $1.1M for SEC Florida
Independence $1.2M South Carolina
Liberty $1.4375M Texas A&M
Belk $1.75M UGA
Music City $2.75M LSU
Taxslayer $2.75M Tennessee
Peach $2.9325M Ole Miss
Texas $3M Arkansas
Outback $3.5M Auburn
Citrus $4.250M Mizzou
Sugar $18M Alabama
Orange $18M Miss State

I'm sure money isn't the only way to rank these...but FYI

Money trumps any other metric in most things. Good information!

Yes,

Armed Forces Bowl 1/2/15 ($675K)
B'ham Bowl 1/3/15 ($1.1MM)
GoDaddy Bowl 1/4/15 ($750K)

Does that make you feel better? Unfortunately, ya left out a few:

Alamo Bowl 1/2/15 ($3.8M)
Cactus Bowl 1/2/15 ($3.3M)

1/12/15 championship, valued at $22M.

And B'ham is $2M, combined, professor. I know, math is hard. Sorry about that.

In my mind, any Iowa fan who wants Ferentz gone is an idiot.

A different OC might not be a bad idea though. Not entirely sure yet, but the results hahe been less than impressive so far.

Ferentz has issues but no doubt he is a hard worker and a good guy. The recruiting is the main problem. While I think it is possible for Iowa to be as good as K-State with the right coach, I'm not sure the right coach is going to take that job. Still, I was in college there during the 1999 1-10 season and I am pretty sure no one wants to go back there. Ferentz dug out of a pretty deep hole to get back to respectability. As disappointing as this season was, I think he'll get a few more years.

Recruiting to Iowa is a whole different animal than recruiting to K State.

Those jucos aren't going to be admitted to the UI.

I think things will be fine when it's all said and done.

I just find it unbelievable that some fans would be crying over going to a bowl game no matter which one it is. REALLY? I would think with the bowl drought that Tennessee has been in we all would be excited but I guess you just can't satisfy everyone!

True.
Tennessee could go to the Peyton Manning bowl, win the Neyland trophy, and someone here would have a problem with it. GBO!!!

Very true cannot please a lot of folks on here. One item I had somewhat underestimated is the extra practices that comes with any bowl game. I was listening on Sirius radio First Take I believe it is what is called, but its the morning show with Greg McElroy on channel 91 college sports. He was talking about how important it was for Alabama. Not sure about exact year but he was emphatic as to the importance of building the team going towards the next year. I never realized just how important these practices were but he was saying it was instrumental in the success of their next year!!

Agreed, nor would I want my alma mater to lower itself to that level academically. I just mean that Iowa could consistently be a 10 win also-ran going to a great bowl every year with the right coaching/recruiting staff.

This year the only big-margin loss was to Minnesota. Imagine a Bill Snyder-like system at Iowa along with a better recruiting class. 10 wins would be the low water mark and I could easily imagine the Hawkeys going 12-0 and being in the playoff with this schedule.

Of course, we fired a HOF coach at Tennessee hoping to get to the elite level again . . . it did not work out well. I can understand keeping Ferentz at Iowa for a while.

Fulmer would have ended up being our Ferentz so don't feel bad he was fired...feel bad that we had an idiot AD who couldn't make the right hire because of incompetence.

With all the restrictions on practice, every little bit helps.

I just said that it did not work out well.

It did not work out well.

I don't feel bad that Phil was paid more than I'll make in my lifetime to stop coming to work. I'll take that deal tomorrow.

What's most important this year is that we finish with a winning season so they can no longer say the last time we had a winning season was...... Iowa gives us a much better chance than WVU as WVU went toe to toe with Bama and TCU and beat Baylor and had 4 turnovers in all of those games

When we are footing the jet fuel bill to fly coaches all over the state and country day in and day out to recruit top level talent to get our depth and talent back to a level that puts us in position to compete for titles money is the trump card in decision making, not only for our coaches and administrators, but SEC had the last say really and they choose knowing these figures. Also we travel better than a whole lot of fan bases so that comes into bargaining for the Bowl Board and the area making money. Someone else mentioned also, our guys have never been to a bowl, this is the seniors last chance, you want to bus them over to Nashville for a really difficult match up for their last game and the game that we will have to sit with for the next 8 months...

Money wise for the conference and school, for the bowl itself and weather/location wise for majority of fans this was best bowl we could get and got it, somehow.

But more importantly for our players this is a real bowl trip. It'll feel like a bowl game, not like a trip to the state championship game or a regional all star game.

With the emphasis on the playoff these kind of bowls are becoming irrelevant with the exception of the 2 semis unless you are a program on the rebound.

Their not great but all their losses were close except Minnesota blowout . Had a 2 OT loss to Nebraska and 2 point loss to Wisconsin who has a Heisman candidate RB. The other 3 losses were 7 points or less

Impressive keeping Iowa State so close. A lesser team would have given up and got trucked.

I'm not talking about the payout. I was referring to posters repeating posting that they are just happy to be playing in January, as if that alone makes it a more prestigious bowl.

People refer to the Taxslayer or Gator bowl as a January game because it has traditionally been on New Years day the past 15-20 years. If we were in the Birmingham Bowl I don't think you'd see our fans running around bragging about a Jan. Bowl.

Our fans are smarter than you think, it is just ridiculous we have to explain ourselves for our excitement all the time to dullards like you.

Well, bince bowl games no longer matter anymore, it makes no sense to brag about the date the bowl falls on, or used to fall on.

Look, getting to a bowl is a good achievement for this team, but just take it for what it is; Don't try and inflate it into something it's not, because in reality, it's a third tier bowl against a piddling BoneG team that is as exciting to watch as women's soccer. Bragging about it being a "January Bowl Game!" is like bragging about knocking out Muhammad Ali if you fought him today.

UT going to Jacksonville has more to do with the fanbase than the team's merits. The "pool of 6" bowls are just that, a pool. Here it is from the SEC:

"The new Pool of Six bowl process gives us the best opportunity to address several issues that impact SEC fans, including the creation of intriguing matchups, the accommodation of travel for fans and a variety of assignments to help prevent repetitive postseason destinations," said SEC Commissioner Mike Slive. "We took into account the preferences expressed to us by the participating teams and had conversations with our bowl partners to create a compelling lineup of bowl games featuring SEC teams."

I'm stoked UT is playing in Jax vs Memphis or Nashville but that doesn't make the game more prestigous. I see it as a reward to a starving fanbase.

WVA fans considered it an honor to play a storied program such as ours and is bitterly disappointed we aren't playing them. Iowa considers it a slap in the face and are poor mouthing their program. We have our usual "hat in hand" fans going over and kissing tail with Iowa fans basically saying, "Thanks but we are too good for you" Really don't care about playing these people and would have loved being in a bowl in this state that desperately wanted us against a team that respects us...

No. Iowa fans are pizzed that our season turned out like it did. A freakin travashamockery by the coaching staff. Easiest schedule in years and a 7-5 finish. People are mad.

We respect you.

Go complain about your team on the Iowa boards. You bore me.

Iowa should be a perennial winner...you have quality linemen practically growing in the fields...Ferentz had a grasp early on...is it the struggle at skill positions that won't let you get over the hump?

Linemen a decent team does not make. I don't think an Iowa WR has caught an NFL pass in 15 years.
