That's a big jump in pay for us going to the Taxslayer bowl. Its pays $2.75M. Liberty pays $1.4M Belk pays $1.75M/ Music City pays $ 2.75 would been nice and closer to Knoxville. But a Jan 2nd game in Jacksonville is great.
It doesn't matter what the team pays out it's equally split for all SEC teams

Seems warranted since Iowa is the center of all things cool. I'm surprised with all the people flocking there for vacation they don't host a bcs bowl. Hell they could call it the field of dreams bowl and have right on someones back 40.

Remember the phrase on Field of Dreams? "Is this Heaven? No this is Iowa":eek:lol:

Maybe Butch should sign the players up onto their fansites so they can read this stuff and give a crap.

Is there such a thing as a prestigious bowl any more?

The January Bowl thing died years ago. Now, outside of playoff none really matter. The couple of runner up bowls feature somewhat better match ups of teams that were in the mix for a good portion of the season.

Other than that it's mostly just a bunch irrelevant match ups of 7-5 and 6-6 teams. Fun for the fans, good for the programs involved (extra practice yadda yadda) but nothing really prestigious about them.

I'm happy we made one for the practices and recruiting pitch. I'm more happy we got an opponent that we have a good chance of beating. WVU would have whipped us.

My freshmen year at UT I dated a girl from Iowa. She was one of those that couldn't let go of the BF back home and left after her first year. I like to think she weights 500 lbs now. And yet another reason I hope we kick the living @#$# out of them.

500 lbs? At least you can dodge that dinner bill now

I give Hart the kudos for this bowl selection, not so much the coronation of CBJ. We like to diss his Bama and Florida history, but that is exactly what helped us with the negotiations/promise of tickets sold and travel packages.

Chancelor Hart's background does come in handy.

Seriously, I think some of our fans think that because Taxslayer is in January that it equates it with the Rose and Sugar...

Wait a minute. It's not? I just wasted a bunch of money for nothing. :thud::thud::peace2::peace2:

GO VOLS!

I'm not talking about the payout. I was referring to posters repeating posting that they are just happy to be playing in January, as if that alone makes it a more prestigious bowl.

Money bowls start December 31 and roll through the following two weeks for the most part. And always have. Thus, "playing in January" is, in fact, alone an indicator of a more prestigious bowl than a date earlier than 12/31 (Peach, Fiesta, Orange).

The numbers are all there for anyone to look at.

So true; which is why, years from now, the players will brag about playing in the Gator Bowl, not the Taxslayer Bowl.

The bowls are so diluted and pimped out now; better to just be happy to have one more game. We all hate to see a season end.

You realize the Armed Forces Bowl, Cactus Bowl, Birmingham Bowl, and GoDaddy Bowl are all played after Jan. 1?

The Taxslayer (Gator) Bowl still has some prestige but there are bowl games that no one cares about after Jan. 1.

WVA fans considered it an honor to play a storied program such as ours and is bitterly disappointed we aren't playing them. Iowa considers it a slap in the face and are poor mouthing their program. We have our usual "hat in hand" fans going over and kissing tail with Iowa fans basically saying, "Thanks but we are too good for you" Really don't care about playing these people and would have loved being in a bowl in this state that desperately wanted us against a team that respects us...

A 7-5 lil'10 talking smack.

Lol @ Florida, A&M and UGA getting smallers bowls than do. The UT brand clearly has more widespread appeal than these cats

The taxslayer has the exact same payout as the music city bowl and a million more than either the belk or liberty so yes it is a good bowl considering our record

I don't know about a slap in the face, but there fans might change there minds after we give them a azz kicking like 37-17 come January 2, that might be the real reason.
