yes. The big difference right now for a lot of people who want a change is that for the first time the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow is actually visible. Hyams and other pro-UTK media personalities have been spreading the word since the UF loss that a loss to the Dawgs will almost certainly do Fulmer in. I'm not going to root for UTK to lose but I can see why some people would feel that way.

as a fan, i could never pull for my team to lose, i think maybe we do need a change,, but im not going to do it by rooting for MY team to lose. to me for a fan to cheer against their team isnt fair to the players. its kinda like those idiots that bash the president and then also bash the troops, i just dont get it (granted you cant put them two in the same cateogry, but it makes a good analogy)

love the scenario...and i believe that it will play out just that way...UT has a great chance to run the table, call me crazy but i am still not buying into ky...believe they will drop to usc, uf and lsu and throw their season into a tailspin which means only one rough challenge on the road and that is bammer...if we win saturday which i think we will awesome chance to go 10-2 and play lsu in the seccg....GO VOLS!!!!

I disagree with the title of the thread...tho I understand its nature. the VOLS are anything but stellar, but they are sitting in a pretty good position. Now, it would be stellar if thay would CAPITALIZE on their opportunity

Since you and others seem to see this as a realistic possibility, I assume that if the Vols do not win out it means you will give Fulmer the blame for essentially blowing the season twice (once out of the gate on his own merit, and once following the gift from Auburn).

are you trying to ruin my new catch phrase?

This could be the most optimistic thread I've seen all year, well since the season started anyway. I think that scenario will play out this weekend, but we have a long way to go before we start talking about ATL, not just on the calender but as a team

People that are negative may need to be that way for a reason. If they start out negatively then they have less disappointment in the event of a loss.

Less disappointment keeps them from killing dogs, cats, other farm animals, and even family members.

My brother-in-law may even smash his beloved MacIntosh if he started out with a positive attitude.

So negativity has it's place. There is a time for everything.....right?

So encouraging negativity in a negative person could turn out to be a positive if I'm thinking correctly.

Looks to me like a fairly simple scenario (don't laugh) could see the Vols climb from the bottom of the SECE to a two-way share of 2nd place this weekend.

1. Kentucky loses at South Carolina on Thursday (very possible).
2. Floriday loses at LSU (very likely).
3. Vandy loses at Auburn (definitely).
4. We beat Georgia (possible).

I concede I may not be the first to consider this complicated scenario :), but it's not that far-fetched, really. This would really help to get some Vol chins up a little..it could be a nice weekend.

Assuming of course, Auburn can handle such a team as Vandy. They've not been good with the "easy" games this year.

I'm not negative. I just want change. I don't realistically see a magic light bulb going off and this team start playing defense and special teams. I want the Vols to win. I want them to beat Florida their fair share of times and I want them to win their fair share of SEC championships. I want to feel like the program is getting better and improving, not spiralling downward. I hate the fact that we are forced into rooting for Auburn and other SEC schools to knock off Florida because we cannot.

I want positive change to the program.

I wouldn't be so sure that Vandy is an "easy" game. Vanderbilt has only one loss. Though it was to a mediocre Bama I really think Vandy just had a horrible day that day. Nixson was not playing ( that day ) as he is very capable of playing plus Vandy had some horrible calls go against them.

I can tell you that Vandy is not the same ole door mat that they've always been in the past. They're getting better athletes in there and getting close to going to a bowl game in the next year or so. Mark my words.

The only bad thing about Vanderbilt is that if they do get to a bowl and have a winning season everybody in the country is going to want their coach. He'll be the first coach to win at Vanderbilt since 1982 I think it was.

It may prove difficult to shake the community awareness of your first post having been a heartfelt defense of Vanderbilt's football team.

That aside, welcome aboard!

Im not buying into Vandy. They beat (barely) Richmond, Eastern Michigan, but had a good win at Ole Miss. And their upcoming schedule is tough, with only one sure (i think) win at Miamo(OH). They need to really get a better team before i will fear them. Ive feared them only once, and that was 2005, with our team, when Cutler was the QB and was throwing to a freshman Earl Bennet.

Well KY did their part :)

Actually, I realized after posting that the best scenario for now would have been for KY to win because that would have given us a shot at sole possession of 2nd place if the rest of the games played out. But hey, coming from where we are now?...I'd take a share of 2nd!

If everything plays out as first stated, why would be in a tie for second?

Kentucky has one SEC loss
South Carolina has one SEC loss
Tennessee would have one SEC loss
Vanderbilt would have two SEC losses.
Georgia would have two SEC losses.
Florida would have two SEC losses.

Wouldn't that be a tie for first place?

Nevermind.

S. Carolina is 3-1.

Tennessee and Kentucky would be 1-1
