From an SEC East standpoint, the Bama game is irrelevant

I'm not delusional enough to believe that UT has any chance of going to the playoffs this season.

I do know that as a fanbase, we NEED this victory worse than a crackhead needs a fix when they wake up.

15 years is long enough.
Don’t have to be delusional to see that a win here increases our playoff chances as high as anyone

You can't just assume that Tennessee and UGA wins every other game on their schedule and say it's irrelevant to determine the east. There's a lot of football left to be played.

If we finish with double digit wins it would be a great season!

I think this is something that needs to be kept in mind. With the hype (MOST of it from national media) and the high rank we can start smelling the peak we want to ascend... but we're not there yet.

We're still at least 2 recruiting cycles and 1 or 2 good transfer cycles away from being able to legitimately compete with the likes of Bama/UGA and Clemson/OSU/USC if we make the playoffs.

We have 26 blue chip (4-5* players) right now. South Carolina has 24. UNC has 33. Florida has 46. LSU has 48. Texas has 58. Georgia has 67. Bama has 74.

Vandy has 4. We're literally closer to Vandy (22) than Georgia in talent. Be happy with ANYTHING at this point. Be happy we beat Florida and are being taken seriously and have a shot at 10+ wins.

For where we have been as a program the last 12-15 ...winning the game Saturday > than making the SECG. JMO of course. We have to end the streak.

We still would have an outside shot at the playoff. UGA makes it to Atlanta and beats Bama giving them their second loss and we are sitting there with 1, we should make it in and hopefully get another shot at UGA.

Eh...if we lose any game left on the schedule not named Bammer or UGA, it would be totally inexcusable at this point. 10-2 Is the absolute floor at this point.

This is a game for us Vol fans to enjoy. We're on banker's money. We have little to lose and a lot to gain. We're not supposed to win. Kick back and hope for the best but if it doesn't work out in the end, focus on Georgia where all the marbles reside. At this point it's fun to be in the conversation

11-1 team losing only to UGA makes the playoff.
Unless Bama beats UGA in Atlanta and those 2 go again.

I know this sounds like I'm setting a low bar here, but for this old man, UT is playing with house money. We took Pitt, UF and LSU. That's way...WAY beyond my expectations. If we beat the teams we're supposed to beat from here on out, that's 10-2. One helluva fine year with this roster. If we manage that and Heupel isn't COA in both the SEC and nationally, it's a crime. The pressure is all on bama and uga in our match ups. Like I said....we're playin' with house money. Kids can play loose and have some fun.

It's not inexcusable. It would be a upset, but upsets happen in College Football.

Even if we lose to Bama, UGA, and somehow get beat by UK, Mizzou, or USCjr I would still say it 9-3 regular season was a good season for this team. 10-2 would be a great season. predicting 11-1 or better before the season started would have got you locked up in the insane asylum. I was expecting 8-4 before the season.

If someone said UT would beat everyone except Bama and Georgia this year, everyone would have taken that deal in year 2 of CJH.

However I'd really love to see UT beat one of those teams, even if it means we lose to someone like Kentucky. I'd take that swap!

As much as people don't want to admit the possibility, there is a decent chance we drop one to Kentucky / SCar / Mizzou. If we beat Bama that would give us more of a cushion.

Beating Bama is about more than winning the East. We play them every year, it’s time to get back where we belong!

In the situation where UT beats Bama then loses to UGA but wins out. Bama and UGA play and Bama wins you have 3 1 loss SEC teams. Big problem for the playoff committee.

Not when there is likely an undefeated Clemson and tOSU sitting there. If we beat Bama, lose to UGA (close and respectable), UGA beats Bama for their 2nd loss, then we can sneak in if the committee takes a 1 loss team.

We are on a completely different level this year than USCjr, Mizzou, Vandy. UK is the only one with talent enough to compete but without Levis they're no good and really not a ton better with him.

We may not be ready to take down bammer and UGA just yet, but we're gonna give them a run no doubt.

After getting through Pitt, UF and LSU unscathed, anything less than 10-2 is unacceptable. We'll just have to disagree on that.

It’s a fun game because all of the pressure is on them. IMO from a program standpoint last week was one of the biggest games of the year. Even if we dropped close ones to Bama and Georgia but finish 10-2 that would be a tremendous success for a second year coach who inherited a dumpster fire. It’s almost unheard of for a coach to inherit a program in the state that ours was in and make it to a major bowl in year 2.

Assuming we are able to take care of Mizzou/SC/Ky/Vandy, where we should be heavy favorites in all of them, the Bama game really doesn’t affect our chances of winning the East.

Beat Bama, lose to Georgia, we don’t win the East.
Unless one of these pretty lackluster performances by UGA costs them a game vs someone else. UGA still plays UF then @ MSU and UK. They shouldn't lose any of those games but could.

So if UT beats Bama but loses to UGA... we need help Far less likely scenario but with a Bama loss there's no other route to the SEC CG except beating UGA.

It’s Bama. Short of the playoffs, or a conference title there isn’t a game that means more. Hell a lot of fans would choose beating Bama over a conference title if it’s one of the two scenarios.

We’ve failed the younger generation. You guys never learned to hate these bastards properly.
Quite the opposite for me. Born in 92 and didn't really start to seriously watch football until 2007 when I went to my first game vs Arkansas and fell in love with UT. I've never watched us beat Bama. I hate them more than any team. Then Georgia, Florida, and UK (I live in KY). A win Saturday personally will mean more to me than any win ever.
