From a Hokie

I wanted to start my own thread, but since I can't, I'll just add on to this one..

From a Bama fan:

I'll start off by saying I have a tremendous amount of respect for the University of Tennessee and all of their accomplishments in College Football. They stand right alongside Alabama when it comes to historic programs in the college football world. I have never truly *hated* UT except on the Third Saturday in October, but that comes with the territory.
This is a blessing in disguise for Tennessee. The past year, I've said all along how Kiffin was not the right fit for the UT job. Nothing about him says "tradition," or "success," in my book. To me, Tennessee is (again, alongside Alabama) traditional and successful.
Given the recent mishaps at UT, the VolNation can rest assured that Tennessee will not be down long.. just as Alabama was not down long. It will be an interesting couple of years, to say the least, but Tennessee will never be a bottom-of-the-pack SEC team - even during troubling times.
The Third Saturday in October has always, and will always, scare the crap out of me.. no matter how good 'Bama may be, and how poor UT may be at the time. It is truly a rivalry game, but there is no outstanding hate from this Bama fan.
I will bid you all good luck on finding a new coach.. hopefully he will be the right fit for UT. I look forward to chatting with you all during the offseason, and maybe taking it into the season as well, if you'll have me.
Good luck, again (but not TOO much, of course!).

This is a very gracious post from a classy fan. I highlighted the two sentences because I think that they are definitely true if you take out the timing factor. But on January 13, 2010, and for the next three or so weeks, we were certainly better off with Kiffin as our coach. We all know that recruiting is kind of a major component of success. And if this particular class really starts to unravel it could set us back a couple years.

We still might be better off in the long term, but I am very much hoping that we can still salvage the short term.

Haha I was just talking with one of my co-workers who is a huge VT fan, and after all the reports from last night he jumped on techsideline make sure there were no Bud Foster rumors. Just trying to have a little fun, during the time of darkness. lol Hopefully this message will prevent the riots. Thanks for your positive posts.

Hahaha ditto

But seriously I don't know how Foster has been able to stay under the radar for so long with HC positions. I definitely wouldn't mind having him. But I also don't want to start a war between the two states. lol

He doesn't want to start his head coaching career at a small program. He wants a program that can succeed, but those programs want a proven head coach. That's what's gonna keep UT from pursuing him imo.

Where in England are you? I live in London. Hard to follow the Vols from here, but with high speed internet and the occasional game at the Sports Cafe in Piccadilly, I make do. You?

To the visting Football Fans: Thanks for the support. It is appreciated.

I want to echo these sentiments.
I'm in Tulsa, Oklahoma this week. As always sporting my orange coat and UT licence plate on the car. Several Okies have approached with 2 comments
1) congrats on the big win over Kansas
2) bad timing on losing ur coach. good luck

This really was a b!tch move by a completely self-centered douchebag, I feel for every UT fan out there. This is the most difficult thing a program can go through. The timing of it just adds insult to injury. Hopefully y'all can keep the majority of that recruiting class and find a coach who will actually embrace the UT tradition and keep the East balanced. I pray to God that Kiffin fails at USC.

BTW, 'sup Sabo?

Yeah buddy! Nice

When Oakland fired Kiffin, to me, he looked like a guy who got fired on purpose, so he could easily pursue one of the sweet college jobs that were sure to open up. I recalled that opinion when he made the silly comment about Nuke and Urban. Then, I went for the Kool-Aid like everybody else.

Well...for the record...I always felt his excuse that he HAD to fib about the Urban recruiting violation was a bunch of shiite. But with his father on staff, I assumed he got rode hard by Monte for lying...guess nothing's changed.
His dad is a great guy, but his son sure as hell fell a long way from the tree. After reading some of our players comments about how they tried to push that tired old "Wild Boy" routine...with the shirt ripping and such...as well as replacing some of our historical photos in the hallways with ones from his days while at USC...we are better off with him gone ASAP. Most of us gave him plenty of slack cause he seemed to have more fight in him than Fulmer did, and the staff seemed to be a really good one...for recruiting anyway.

In the final analysis, I think we learned a very valuable lesson...better to get a Head coach who will relish the challenge of the SEC, and isn't trying to use us for a pitstop/stepping stone for another coaching position. Mighty funny how we are suddenly seeing the world from the same lenses the rest of the SEC and NCAA is.

Good post as well as the sympathetic trolls. Welcome newbies and very classy.

WE will recover from this!

a little late to the party tonight, sorry, i had to work late. just wanted to say that this sucks for you. temporarily. i say that because kiffin is a punk whose mouth can't keep his a$$ out of trouble. it may take a season or two, or maybe not, but your program is better off without him.
i am thankful now more than ever for kirk ferentz at iowa, and knowing that he'll stay for a few more years still. i'm sorry your program is going through this, it's been one of the few sec programs i've rooted for. i have had knoxville on the list of places to visit to see a college game, and i think it's good for college football in general to have a good tennessee program.
so, good luck in your coaching search, i hope you land a good one, so you can beat florida, alabama and georgia. especially the first 2.
what game should i attempt to get tickets for in knoxville? what is the best game to see there, year in and year out?

Eh, atmosphere wise I'd say Bama and Florida games. I dunno how good of a game it will be in the next year or two though...
