I have always thought "Here for a Good Time" by George Strait would be a good 3rd quarter song. Its upbeat, positive, talks about not getting down, embracing the now, and even mentions moonshine.

The new generation of students may think it is too old school, but Bama sings a song from 1983 about Tennessee and they don't complain.

I would rather not have some bro country mumble rap crap.
I always change the lyrics to “I’m not here for a good time. I’m just here for a long time.” Fits the work mood better.

Exactly…. The fascination with this as a stadium song is perplexing. Nothing wrong with the song itself, but a lot of people seem to forget it takes about 2 minutes to get to the good part.

There's no chorus!!! Everyone mentions it and I'm like "okay, cool what part are we singing?" and nobody can answer lol

Tennessee Jed by Grateful Dead (which I mention every year) isn't as whimsical as Dixieland Delight, but you want to talk about 100K singing that chorus? Let's go.

I know the entire song, so I think it is easy to sing 😂

Even if we did the third verse, I'm not sure if singing about the horrors of Vietnam is the best use of a third quarter song. I think "The Rooster" by Alice in Chains is an all-timer but I won't suggest that for the third quarter song lol

I agree - it's time to move on from Garth and Low Places.
I also agree - unless you do some heavy editing, Copperhead Road isn't it either. Also, after all that editing will the fans even know what to sing and when?

I kind of like the Tennessee River idea.
If you use the Alabama version, might want to think about cutting about 15 seconds off the intro and amping up the bass and guitar hits to get the crowd riled up.

Other options to consider:
You shook me all night long (could cut off somewhere in the middle, like after 2nd chorus since most folks don't know the entire song)
Sweet Caroline (although it takes a minute to get to the juicy part and it's kind of long and monotonous after a bit too)
Viva La Vida by Coldplay might be cool (only know this from attending a local hockey game where it was played and the crowd really got into it)
Don't Stop Believin (again may have to edit after the first or second chorus)
We will Rock You (might get fuzzy when it comes to the 'rap' portion)
Not a bad list, thanks for some ideas.

You Shook Me All Night Long - not my favorite song, but I could see a crowd getting into belting this one out
Sweet Caroline - I think some others are already using this?
Viva La Vida - hadn't ever really considered this...maybe a little too soft for stadium/rally?
Don't Stop Believing - to me this is in the same vein as You Shook Me All Night. I like this one better and the young kids as well as older gen know the words. This might be my favorite of your list.
We Will Rock You - nope. way too overplayed

I've always wondered what the chorus of Say Amen (Saturday Night) - Panic at the Disco belted out on a Saturday evening in Neyland. Seeming fitting to defeat an opponent:

"ooooohhhh, it's Saturday night!
I pray for the wicked on the weekend,
Momma can I get another Amen?
oooooohhhh it's Saturday night!
Swear to God, I ain't ever gonna repent
Momma, can I get another Amen?
oooooohhhh it's Saturday night!"

I like the song personally. Would I rather have him write some greatest hit about TN football? Yes. But in lieu of that happening, what we got is leagues better than garth.

Has there ever been a tradition that originated by people going "Hey, I think we need a new tradition?" Don't these kids of things happen more organically? Stuff that is forced (like saying that we "need" to pick an end of 3rd quarter song) usually doesn't stick.

If we're trying to pick something, we need some kind of uptempo song with a tie to the state in some way. Please don't pick something stupid and overplayed like Sweet Caroline.

Checked in today to see what was going on at VN and found this thread on the front page ...

Kickoff absolutely cannot come soon enough.

Honestly Pat, you and I have been around here long enough, I would rather be talking about what song we as fans are going to be singing between the 3rd and 4th quarters than some of the things we had to talk about in years past...you know like if we were even going to be able to field a team come the 4th quarter against the lizards or elephants !!!

Say Amen would be really cool, if only to hear it once with 100K belting it out.

Back in the day, McGavock High School Band would sing 'Happy Trails' as they left the field...often wondered if that wouldn't fit.
Also, at my high school we would do 'Good Bye' (you know the tune...na na na naaaa na na na naaaaa good bye) if we were up big going into the 4th.

Agreed, I suddenly flashed on the endless discussions of whether or not we should do the "woo" during "Rocky Top!"

The passing of my dear friend @Chartervol solved that problem for me as I can't sing the damned thing without choking up.

(*I'm not doing this again......I'm not doing this again......I'm not doing this again......*)

Just know that when that abominable pile of garbage song plays in Neyland to kick off the third quarter, my voice won't be lifted but my middle fingers will.

It also fits in with Rocky Top lyrics
"Once two strangers climbed ol' Rocky Top
Lookin' for a moonshine still
Strangers ain't come down from Rocky Top
Reckon they never will"

It's complementary to Rocky Top.
There was a time when the area of Sherwood had a reputation for disappearances. I knew two people from "the mountain (Sewanee)" that went missing in the seventies.

Edit - Actually only one. The other was somewhat brutalized, but, made it out.

I understand the "Doesn't matter" crowd. However, if we are going to have a end of 3rd quarter song, I would think there should be some type of Tennessee connection OR something very fast paced/uplifting.

My music is grounded in the 70's, but when my kids would play this song, I think I liked it more than they did, at least for getting fired up about something. Can you imagine if they had played this for the Alabama game?

LOL. Class of 1992 here. I vividly remember McGavock and “Happy Trails”. Wow, what a memory!
