Tennessee's young wideouts are expected to bring athleticism and elusiveness to the position. Byrd (6 foot, 195 pounds) and Callaway (6-2, 190) are likely to be the most capable playmakers in the group at the start, while Williams (5-11, 175) is a Florida speedster. Johnson, the most unheralded recruit of the group, packed 15 pounds on his 6-foot-2 frame this spring and showed up on campus at 190. He's been a surprise this summer with his polish and catching ability.

Linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin said he watches the offense throw every day and is impressed with how the freshmen receivers have been working.

"Brandon Johnson, he's smooth," Reeves-Maybin said. "Marquez Callaway and Latrell Williams, they all bring something different. I've had fun watching those receivers. This whole freshman class as a whole, they work. They have no big egos. There was no, 'I'm coming in and I'm this star or that star.' Those guys work. They're a part of us, and those guys are catching on fast. It's been fun to see."

I'm calling it right now. One of these receivers will be a freshmen all-american.

If I had to bet I'd say Marquez Callaway.

But but but.... Brandon Johnson was a lowly three star recruit! And Williams was only a TWO STAR on some sites. There's no way they can contribute!

If we have an all American at receiver with our loaded backfield, we will win a national championship. I'll say it before and I'll say it again, if Dobbs throws for 3000 yards nobody will beat us and I mean nobody. Go vols!

Correct. Last year the reports were about Jennings being the best WR, best hands, the possible #1 WR.....he did indeed start, but only caught about 15 passes last season. We should take these reports for what they're worth.....not much.

Heard Swain say that while he's sure the newcomer WRs are doing well, there's likely some coaching gamesmanship going on here....trying to light a fire under/put a little pressure on the older guys.

I think the difference this year is that we have a barn full of these guys. One of them has to work out by numbers alone, and the coaches and players recognize that the passing game has been disappointing and have been working on it all off season. I know I'm down on putting too much youth on the field, but if you surround them with experience and make it a priority ... I think that these are probably the most talented group of youth in the country. It can work this time, but you are going to have to get someone under center that can get a hot passing arm... that's the trick.

Hey man i agree three stars (these guys in particular) can become great players, but you gotta admit you would have taken a five star over either of those guys still (granted they wanted to come here of course). Lots of great former three star guys out there, but the five star guys are almost always studs.

I lost respect for Swain and Stokes as media members last year

Stokes? Never had any to begin with. I've rolled my eyes at this poser since day one.....do it to this day. He was trying to establish some bona fides I guess. He's an arrogant fraud and I wish Swain would cut him loose.

Swain? I'm all good with Jayson and appreciate his insight and occasional insider information.

I guess I judge Swain by the company he keeps which isn't right. Stokes makes him look bad and is giving his show a bad rep

Fair point. Like I said, he oughtta cut Stokes loose but they go back a ways so I guess it's not gonna happen.
