amazing. The dhimmitude of France continues to manifest itself. If it wasn't clear in the runup to the Iraq war, it should be clear now. France is no longer an ally.

Commanders of the French contingent of the United Nations force in Lebanon have warned that they might have to open fire if Israel Air Force warplanes continue their overflights in Lebanon, Defense Minister Amir Peretz told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on Monday.

Peretz said that nevertheless, Israel would continue to patrol the skies over Lebanon as long as United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 remained unfilfilled, adding that such operations were critical for the country's security, especially as the abducted IDF soldiers remain in Hezbollah custody and the transfer of arms continue.

nowhere in that story is any frenchman quoted as saying they WILL shoot at anything. it's even in the part of the story you quoted, they "might have to."

don't get me wrong, i can understand how that might upset someone, but i think it is more of a bluff (aimed at keeping the peace, no less) than anything.

what's disturbing is that the French could care less that Hezbollah is rearming behind their backs. they'd rather focus on the IDF. A patrolling airplane should not be seen as a threat to the UNIFIL troops at all.

they may only be patrolling now, but they are warplanes, and it's not like israel has never started anything before. and i am sure the french realize that hezbollah is behind them, and probably are well aware that either side could ignite this conflict again. i am not saying i think israel will do anything, i'm just saying at this point it may not be a bad idea to let the peacekeepers keep the peace.

There will never be peace in the Middle East ! There can't be or the Koran would be wrong and Muhhomad would be considered a liar!

I always love this argument towards the Middle East. The Arab world was quite peaceful from the end of the Crusades until Aflaq started spouting off his garbage in the Middle East in the early 20th century.

Prior to Aflaq, the Middles East was a more peaceful region of the world than Europe, America, Africa, and Asia. It had its share of wars and violence, however, it was not a region of constant wars and violence, as some seem to believe.

The Middle East should be wiped off the face of the earth. Nothing good is ever going to come out of that place.
