Free throws

Crash course with some guiding principles on free throws from a basketball clinic years ago.

This can make it routine like clockwork.

On regulation courts, there is a nail in the perfect center of the free throw line.

Line up the big toe on your shooting side directly to the nail hole with your knee, elbow and wrist all in alignment with it.

Using the hand opposite your shooting hand to guide the ball while the ball is in the pocket of your shooting hand, shoot up through the imaginary ceiling of the "telephone booth" and then follow through with your hand "reaching in the cookie jar".

Most of Tennessee's players look to be rushing their shots on free throws. Taking time to focus on form will yield benefits.

I see the same thing and totally agree don't rush, concentrate. Even when a guy stops and looks up many times he just flips the ball up. Take time to block out all else but the basket and visualize the ball going in. Too much looking like they are saying to themselves "let's get on with it".

What really hurts is fast breaks out of control with no passes and a wild shot. We shoot a lot of three’s that are air balls!

Good win. But free throw shooting has to get better especially for the older players. Free throws will come back on us in the tournament if we don't improve. Go Vols. Blessings to all.
They could keep us out of the tournament altogether is we don't pick it up. Maybe a little bit strong of a statement, but the league is very even ATM.

Hey just my take. We aren't that good. The LSU team we just beat didn't have their best guard I think. Fully isn't playing at all like he did against Arizona. And we are missing double digit free throws. Pretty bad.

That's what weak point training does for you though. It brings up weaknesses into a strength so that they aren't weaknesses anymore.

Weren’t we missing 2 of our better players when we went to Bama and lost a close game? Don’t see anybody “not counting” that one…did you miss the game before when Tennessee went 25/29 for 86%? This team is in no danger of missing the tourney at this time, that’s quite the take.

Yeah, but that was Bama. This is Auburn. Yes I saw the one game where we shot well at the FTL only to turn around and shoot horribly at the line. I hope you are right!

Losing to Auburn, if that happens, really isn’t a big deal…they’re likely a 1 seed, that’s a nothing to lose game for us.

I wish we never got rid of Pearl. Only to turn around and hire Pruitt? Different sports of course, but clearly there was no standard. Just people covering their tracks.

Nobody in their interviews says "Hey, I plan on paying these recruits under the table" or "I will lie to you to save my own ass, leaving you no choice but to fire". It would've been different if UT decided to keep Pruitt. They both were rightfully fired for their wrongdoings, so I don't get why you say there's a different standard.

I don't believe that Fulmer didn't know.
