I know we usually do this on Friday, but I couldn't wait. Who knows, maybe we'll get them up a littler earlier in the week this year. If the worst were to happen, and Tennessee doesn't win, I may relinquish the reigns to @Notorious B.E.N or someone else to do the honors next week. Yes, I'm superstitious. Not really. Ok, a little.

For those not familiar, this is a general thread where you can post about anything on your mind (except stuff that should be in the politics forum), whether it be Tennessee football related or not. Consider it our friendly tailgate party, where we hang out as the game approaches.

Also, a reminder, if you haven't already, get your entries posted in in the pick-the-score contest thread. As we do every year, we'll be giving away an Amazon gift card to the winner each week.

So let's get it started!

--

It's hard for me to believe that the season is finally upon us. Part of me probably won't fully believe it until I see the team running onto the field Saturday night. I posted in another thread that this has been the longest we've been without Tennessee football since the season last kicked off in my lifetime, and it feels like it. I'm anxious for that void in my life to be filled. I might even break out my "Vol Network Greatest Hits" CD.

unnamed (2).jpg

It should be a good game according to Vegas. Last I saw the line was Tennessee favored by around 3 to 3.5 points. I'm guessing the home team advantage will be less this year, so let's hope we come out and start off strong. Any chance we see Cade Mays? Who emerges at tight end with Pope out for the year? Will we see many freshmen?

Who's going to the game this weekend? I know some of you posted about buying tickets online. For those of us stuck at home, let us know your plans for the weekend and post any pictures, if you can find the time. We'd all appreciate living vicariously through you. lol.

For those stuck at home, like me, any big plans this weekend for the game? Tailgates? Gatherings? Food menu? Other high school, college or pro games you're looking forward to? I'll probably check in on the college and NFL game that's on tonight with Freak Jr. and take in as many games as I can on Saturday. It doesn't look like the best schedule as far as premier matchups, but I'm looking forward to all of the SEC games. I'm anxious to see both Leach and Kiffin on the sidelines in the SEC.

On an off topic note of interest, did anyone else pre-order a PS5 or Xbox Series S/X this week? It was a frustrating experience to say the least, but it's an exciting time if you're a gamer like me. And I refer to myself as a gamer, using the term very loosely. I don't have the time to play that I used to, and I'm too old to be very good, but I still enjoy it.

Anyway, I hope everything has a great Friday and a great weekend, and I look forward to reading in this thread about what everyone is up to.

Go Vols!

[edit: @joevol33 bring some of those 200k+ posts in here and help me get this thing going. :) ]

Never owned a PS and havent had an Xbox since the 360.

I think I just grew out of video games. I dont mean that as an insult to anyone who still does plays. I never grew out of comic books so not playing a mature card or anything 😂😂😂

I'm thinking about going golfing in Alabama Saturday morning and playing Rocky Top on my phone on repeat the whole round!! #BuckFama :) I'm guessing it's going to be lots of folks that stay home all day Sat.
You live in Alabama? If so, I'm sorry to hear that.

How's your golf game. Play often? You any good? I'd like to try to get out and play a little more now that the weather has cooled down. I played some earlier this summer but the heat was rough at times.

I think that happens to a lot of people. My son plays and I enjoy playing with him. I have to keep at it somewhat consistently or I risk losing my finely honed skills. I don't want to embarrass myself any more than necessary. lol.

It's crazy though, how much more complex games have gotten over the years. Gone are the days of Tecmo Bowl, where you had two buttons and four plays to choose from.

I still play NCAA 14 on PS3. Just to play with Tennessee!!!
I think there are a lot of Tennessee fans who still enjoy NCAA. I still have a copy and would love to play it more, but it's hard for me to go back to the old consoles. Maybe some day we'll see another college football game. I always looked forward to that one releasing every year. I remember Game Stop used to have midnight launch parties, and I'd drag my son and nephew, who were barely old enough to be up that late, down to the store for release.

Southern Middle Tn, close to the Alabama line. Played golf for 43 years off and on, used to be decent, not so much this year. We play pretty often. It's gotten so bad this summer I've gone to the Moe Norman single plane swing mechanics if there are any golfers out there that know what I'm referring too. I played a couple of seasons at Martin Methodist College when it was a JUCO way back in the late 80s. Rumor is that Martin Methodist in Pulaski is about to become the 4th branch of the University of Tennessee, lots of excitment over that.

Didn‘t know there was a Freak Jr.....that’s great! How old is your son? I have three - my 2 girls are 21 and 19 and my son is 13.

I grew up gaming, pretty much quit when EA canceled College Football. Always liked the FIFA game and the downtown racing games, I was always a playstation player, started on Pong then Atari, guess I've had all the old consoles except XBox, I always hated that controller.

Friday night, I'll be at the Mt. Juliet and Spring Hill game, then back to the shed for beer and the 104.5 high school recap show. Then Saturday, I have seven games to watch, with the most important starting at 6:30 PM, more beers, and possible yelling. I will only return to the board if things go really well (to make playoff plans), or if they go really bad (Pruitt and JG threads). Titans on Sunday, possible 3-0 start. It may not seem like much, but there will be spreadsheets, hot wings, beer, and probably pizza at some point. Go Vols!!!!!!

Re: the longest we've been without football.

How did you come to that conclusion? I was just curious about that so I did some Meff Maff and came up with.....

From January 2 of 2020 til Saturday is 267 days.

We didn't go bowling in 2018 so our last game was November 25. We played our next game on September 4, 2019. That's 283 days.

What am I missing?

My son just turned 23. Let's say I had him really young. :)

I'll tell you this, I can't imagine having two girls. Those must have been, and continue to be, some wild teenage years.

For the record I plan to fish a little with junior early in the morning before parking my junk in my favorite chair to enjoy a full day of SEC football. So thankful it’s here under the circumstances.
What types of fish are you looking to catch? Anything specific?

Sounds awesome. I forgot to mention the Titans game. I'll definitely be tuning in for that one.

Pandemic time makes things twice as long. That's why!

No, seriously, I'm wrong. Thanks for clarifying. I guess I should have said it's been the longest since the season last kicked off. But it feels like it's been months longer than normal. lol.

I wasn't trying to prove you wrong. I feel the same way and was curious what the numbers were.

It definitely seems longer.

Plus, we missed the spring game and practice has been on lock down, so we haven't even had any real quarterback analysis or much else to beat into the ground on a daily basis.

Didn’t order the PS5 think I’m gonna wait till after the new year to get it. As far as plans for the game, it was my fiancé’s birthday this week, we have to go have lunch with her father on Saturday, I told her we had a strict time limit so we could watch as many games as possible. Luckily, she’s a football fan so she happily agreed. Going to have my father over for the game. He spent close to the last 2 months in the hospital with covid, which caused blood clots and nearly caused him to lose his left leg. He’s just getting back to where he can walk without much assistance. Will be nice to have him over again finally especially for the first game.
