It's Florida week. We're now less than 24 hours until kickoff.
I couldn't wait any longer to start this thread. I know Butch, based on his latest comments, is trying to downplay the significance of this game, but it doesn't get much bigger than this: Checker Neyland; Shake Neyland; GameDay; Summit being honored; potential record number of unofficial visitors; 3:30 game on a national stage; the streak; the trash talk; etc. etc.
Granted, Tennessee could lose to Florida and still mathematically accomplish all of its goals, but from the fan perspective, this game is a must win.
On the injuries: I'm anxious to see what Chance Hall can do to help the struggles of our offensive line. Hopefully, with him in the game, we can field our best five and limit mistakes. I'm hopeful, but this is a guy who missed spring practice with a shoulder injury and then had knee surgery in August. He's missed a lot of time.
With Sutton out it looks like Martin and Moseley will be our starting corners. I think both of those guys have struggled a little this year, but based on what we've seen from Florida, and based on what we expect from Appleby, the passing game isn't expected to be Florida's strength.
It looks like we'll see Colton Jumper again, filling in for the injured Kirkland. I know many think we surely have better options, but by most accounts, Jumper played well last week. I've also seen some rumblings that Dillon Bates, who everyone is always asking about, might get some snaps in relief. We'll see.
I listened to former Vol quarterback Heath Shuler on the radio yesterday. I had forgotten the numbers he put up in that '93 shootout with Danny Wuerffel. Shuler threw for 355 yards and five touchdowns. Tennessee still lost, though.
When asked about how his teammates would have reacted to all the Florida trash talk we've heard this year, Shuler answered that he wouldn't have wanted to be on the scout team defensive line that week, against guys like Jason Layman, Kevin Mays, Bubba Miller and Jeff Smith.
Those names bring back some memories, don't they?
So, who's going tomorrow? Where are you sitting? What are you plans and what's on the menu? Anyone going to GameDay before the game? Who wants to volunteer to take a VolNation.com sign?
What about tonight? Anyone catching some high school football, watching football on tv, or starting their pregame ritual early?
We've been looking forward to this game for 364 days. I expect Neyland Stadium to be louder than I've ever heard it! It's our day! Let's get it!
Go Vols!
