Many believe the offensive side of the ball and RPO (QB play) has changed the college game. Yes, a stout D is still needed. But, you can't have a stout D alone. That was proven when Clemson trounced Bama! It has been stated by most that UT needs a GREAT OFFENSIVE MIND leading the program back to relevance. I believe Reich would be a GRAND SLAM hire! UT needs an ELITE QB developer and ELITE OFFENSIVE MIND. Frank Reich is both. Give him an ELITE DC that has great relationships with the players and can RECRUIT on the D side of the ball along with a staff of ELITE RECRUITERS for him to bring UT back to the promise land!!!

As a player:

1) Lead the Maryland Terrapins to the biggest second half comeback in NCAA history
2) Lead the Buffalo Bills to the biggest comeback in NFL history, 32 pt deficit.

As NFL position coach:

1) 2009 and 2010 QB coach for Colts (coaching our beloved Peyton, Peyton had his 6th and 7th most productive seasons from a TD/Int ratio and 4th and 5th most passing yards out of 17 with some help from Reich) that lead the Colts go 14-2 (previous season 12-4) in 2009 and 10-6 in 2010. The Colts didn't have Dungy's D in 2009 and 2010 like they did in 2006 when they won the Super Bowl

2) 2013 QB coach for San Diego that helped Phillip Rivers have his BEST COMPLETION % in his 17 year career as well as 4th fewest INTs, 2nd most TDs thrown, and
highest QBR during his 17 years!

As an NFL OC:

1) 2015 with San Diego where he helped lead the team to 4th in passing yards and 10th in total yards despite being 31st in rushing yards due to a weak OL and average or below average RB in Melvin Gordon.

2) During 2017 (his 2nd year) he led the Eagles offense in his second year to a Super Bowl win by developing Carson Wentz (had most TD passes in his career under Reich) and helped Nick Foles lead the Eagles to the Super Bowl win in 2017!!! Nick Foles had his best numbers in three seasons with Reich coaching him!!! He has done a great job at Indianapolis inheriting a team that went 4-12 before he took over as HC.

As an NFL HC:

1) 2018, Led Colts to 10-6 record with his team losing to Chiefs in 2nd round of playoffs (Colts were 4-12 previous season). Andrew Luck had his 2nd highest TDs, highest completion percentage, and best QBR in Reich's first season as HC!

2) 2012, Led Colts to 11-5 record with his team losing by 3 points to Bills that just lost to Chiefs that will probably win the Super Bowl again.

3) 28-20 record in NFL in his first 3 seasons as a HC.

His wiki is impressive regarding his personal life. His personal info sheds light on why he would be a coach with INTEGRITY! He has been a technology education TEACHER and coach at a HS. He is a motivational speaker. He has a Master of Divinity Degree.

Frank Reich - Wikipedia

Supposedly, He earns 4.5 million a year. If the rumor of DW having the ability to shell out 7/8 million a year is true, maybe Frank Reich would listen. Even though, some sanctions could be headed UT's way.

Heck of a coach. But he's 59 years old and he seems well entrenched in the NFL lifestyle. He has zero college experience. I can only think of Herm Edwards that made the jump at such an age.

No doubt his resume is impressibve.

Why would an NFL head coach want to leave for UT

I can think of 2.5 to 3 million reasons as well as THE CHALLENGE to return UT to relevance!!! Someone has to have the desire for the challenge. Danny White sure did sound like he had a desire for the challenge and more money!!!!!

Well, he is 10 years younger than Saban. I would take Reich for 10 years!!! =)

May want to give Marv Levy a solid look as well.

Lots of difference between 95 and 59!!! Ed Orgeron is 59. I guess you don't want him because he is 59. LOL Heck, Freeze is 51. A lot of people on this board act like UT can't hire anyone that will be past the age of 45 besides Freeze to be successful. Mack Brown has done a hell of a job at UNC, much better than anyone UT has had in 14 years. Including Kiffin, that a bunch of people on this board want back. Kiffin hasn't proved squat in the Power 5 conference. He couldn't even continue to win in the Pac 12 with ALL THE TALENT IN HIS BACK YARD IN CALI!!! Chadwell, Napier, and Fickle haven't proved themselves in the Power 5, much less the NFL!!! I would take Fisher before Chadwell, Napier, and Fickle. I don't want another coach out of the Power 5. The SEC eats up and spits out 95% of them. Who has came to the SEC from a non Power 5 school and done well besides Freeze, Gus, Meyer, and Spurrier in the last 25 years??? How many HCs have been in the SEC longer than 4 years other than Stoops and Saban??? It is time to quit being the riverboat gambler and get a PROVEN HC that LEADS MEN TO WINS ON THE FIELD and EVERYWHERE ELSE!!!!!

Cracking up at the thought of a successful NFL head coach leaving all that for the mess we have.

I was wondering why a winning NFL would consider taking a college job. The added work and stress (I'm assuming) would be be tremendous.

It has to be NOBODY and for sure isn't SOMEBODY.

If history tells us anything about the HC position at UT, not one of us on VN knows anything.
