Anybody that coaches a team to six consecutive 10 win seasons deserves props. Regardless of which conference you're in-or who you play, it takes work and preparation to have your team ready week in and week out in order to accomplish that.

What hurts beamer from winning the big one is Blacksburgs location. It will never get the bigtime recruiting class as a whole. They are the nebraska of the East. In these day and times the Cornhuskers wont get the top 10 recruiting classes you just have to develop the locals. Mix in a few great recruits and outscheme and there is your formula.

If we can just get them to visit, we can usually land them. Jayron Hosley was a lock for USF. The staff talked him into taking an official and he commited as soon as his visit was over. Recruits fall in love with the place if they actually see it.
Biggest difference between VT now and Nebraska in the 80s and early 90s is Nebraska did it with mediocre facilities in addition to rural location. VT's facilities are among the best in the nation.
Recruits will go wherever they feel gives them the best shot to make it to the NFL.

Which is why the way bowl tie ins are st up is stupid.

ACC bowl tie-ins are still effed up from expansion. CFA Bowl has proven they're serious about being the preemenent non-BCS bowl and will eventually outbid the competition to get the first or second post-BCS SEC pick. Just wait for bowl contracts to come up for renewal. And when that happens, with the natural animosity between the SEC and ACC, the CFA bowl could become like the Rose Bowl of the east.

No, I am not the real Dyron Nix.

But if I was, I would still laugh at Frank Beamer getting hit in the head by his own player.

You really think the Chick-Fil-A Bowl is the big game? Wow

Unfortunately thats the next best bowl for the ACC behind the Orange Bowl so some would think yes, thats a big game. Honestly the win I think was what VT needed 0-4 since 2002 against the SEC they needed to do something.

The way the bowl tie ins are setup are kind of ridiculous. That win may have been what you guys needed but I wish you would have got it against someone else.....You guys were just flat out deeper than us and bigger up front and it showed....Congrats.....I will say if Denarius don't drop that pass in the 4th quarter its a game changer but he did and you guys deserved to win:peace2:

I do not think we were outcoached in scheme at all. I in fact think the plan was great. Execution was very poor. You can lay that on the coaches for maybe a lack of focus in practices and being shorthanded. But the scheme was just fine. Beamer is a great coach either way as is Foster.

Fantastic coach. I respect him a lot. I was very surprised by the loyalty of his staff. That is impressive.

Could you imagine if he was able to recruit like USC or Texas? They would be incredible.

Only problem with Beamer is that he doesn't win the big games, but he sure is consistent.

Let's face it. We lost to a better team and at least for that night we were outcoached.

We have a long way to go, but we should be proud to have had the chance to play an outstanding program...a program we will surpass in years to come.

Go Vols

I think his best coaching days are behind him now, but he's been good for a long time.

O line and D line were trashed by VT. No heart and no spirit. Hardesty looked like half the man he used to be and ran with no authority. Dropped passes, lack of execution. My boys didn't looked prepared at all.

We weren't out coached though. hmmmm

Beamer is a real solid coach.
He DID NOT outcoach The Big Orange. He didn't need too unfortunately.
But he runs a very clean program, has the personality to allow for loyatly among his coaching staff, and does a lot with less talent compared to other Top 10 programs (if you believe scouting services). His recruiting classes are usually Top 15-30. Well they usually wind up in the rankings 10-15. That tells me that he does a lot with what he has.

You just said a mouthful there, though, brother. There's a few (thousand) of us Hokie fans that really want Beamer to branch out in recruiting, but Beamer has always preferred recruiting a 3-star player from Virginia who grew up dreaming about playing for VT over a 4/5 star player from let's just say Florida for example who would probably put VT on the short list but has no passion for the program.

It's hard to argue with that logic when we consistently perform above our recruiting class rank, but I also think as VT has become a more recognizable name there are more kids out there in other states with genuine interest in VT that maybe don't get a good look from the staff because they're primarilly focused on recruiting Virginia.

That being said, there is some excellent high school football played in Virginia, and VT pretty much owns the state in terms of recruiting.
