Fantastic coach. I respect him a lot. I was very surprised by the loyalty of his staff. That is impressive.

Could you imagine if he was able to recruit like USC or Texas? They would be incredible.

Only problem with Beamer is that he doesn't win the big games, but he sure is consistent.

Let's face it. We lost to a better team and at least for that night we were outcoached.

We have a long way to go, but we should be proud to have had the chance to play an outstanding program...a program we will surpass in years to come.

I think he's a bit overrated, but he is good.

Bud Foster deserves equal respect, the guy has stayed with Beamer since 87 and has top ten defenses nearly every year. He certainly should be up for a Head Coaching Gig pretty soon.

Beamer is always knocking on the door, but just comes short of breaking it down.

Beamer is just Fulmer's twin. Wins a small percentage of games when talent level is equal. If his staff was so good, they would leave for better positions.

I don't see why everyone keeps saying we got out coached????I don't think u can be out coached unless the talent on both teams is equal or close to it...or unless you are the underdog and come out with a win... We just got out played with more depth...Their Offensive line and defensive line was outstanding...

We have lost 20 players this year to getting kicked off the team and have had some very significant injuries in key areas on our team...

To say we got out coached does not make much sense to me....I would say we got worn out throughout the year and the lack of depth finally caught up to us...

We will be ready next year...We have depth and some weapons we have been missing (Palardy) coming in...I am so excited for Football next year I can't even think about waiting 9 months...

Get to work boys you got 9 months to get stronger and faster...

Good post O/P I agree. We have a ways to go, but headed in the right direction.

We got to close strong with recruiting before we think about spring practice. Close strong, get some O linemen that can contribute early!

We'll be alright

I agree. I thought we were outplayed but never considered being out caoched. Got that on the 1st reading the threads but just don't see it. I thought we could keep it closer though but the intangibles got us.

I really thought we would keep it close and yes....I thought we could win. But it will take time as we all know. Got to get a few more top recruiting classes to catch up. I agree that Beamer is a top coach and a class act but we were not outcoached. They were the better team this year. Go Vols!

No homie,

We deserved to be there and we got our tails handed to us.

We were over matched and have no depth...it showed.

Beamers teams have been to BCS bowl games and one NC game...has not won many of them. He has a horrible record against top 10 teams.

This year we were not a BCS team, NC caliber team, not even close to the top 10...therefore for VT this was not a "big game" On paper they should have beaten us and they did. Just being objective.

Two certain TD drops by D. Moore? Oh, what might have been. It changed the mindset and tempo of the game for us. It was winnable; CLK WAS NOT out-coached.

UT has a better recruiting class than the Hokies EVERY year. It's what the VT coaching staff can do with the lower star recruits that is so impressive. UT was outcoached. Maybe not in this game alone, but in the development of it's players throughout the season, the VT coaching staff did a much better job.
I think UT is on the right track. I dislike LK and have no respect for him as a man, but he is a fine coach and I believe if he will get UT back to winning (assuming he is given the chance). Just my opinion

I disagree with your sentiment about player development. We had two O linemen that were walk ons. We have our starting linebacker, walk on, who was injured. We had 20 scholarship players leave the program. We had a head case QB with a phenomenal turn around.

We had no depth, and our coaches did a great job coaching up with what we had. Overall our coaches did a great job coaching up a team with very little depth and short on talent. Minus 3 games this year (UCLA, Ole Miss, and V Tech) I think our coaches did a phenomenal job, and had arguably a much tougher jhob than Beamer. They did all of this work in one year as well.

What hurts beamer from winning the big one is Blacksburgs location. It will never get the bigtime recruiting class as a whole. They are the nebraska of the East. In these day and times the Cornhuskers wont get the top 10 recruiting classes you just have to develop the locals. Mix in a few great recruits and outscheme and there is your formula.

I haven't followed them that closely but from what I have read and heard he has run a very 'clean' program. He has an enviable record and has been able to retain his coaches so I admire what he has achieved. If he has kept players from getting into trouble, that seems to be a major accomplishment today. Not many programs can compare with the reputation he has built there so how can you not respect him? We would be fortunate to have a coach who had such a legacy. Maybe he has found a way to let his players know when they come there that STUPIDITY will not be tolerated! Wish our coaches could get that message to players coming to TN!!

True, but by that rationale it would be more accurate to say Beamer et. al outcoached Fulmer in this game. Kiffin's only had one year with these kids and he personally recruited very few of them. Tennessee isn't fully "his" team yet.
