I respectfully disagree. The Fulmer era is not "just another chapter." Neyland brought us to relevance for the first time and kept us there, but after that, we were for the most part mediocre except for the late 60s and early 70s and parts of the 80s. The period from 94 to 07, save a few bad years such as 05 (but even then we beat a very good LSU team in Baton Rouge), represents a sustained period of relevance the likes of which we will never see again.

If Cutcliff was here in 05 big things would have happened.

The fact that Beemer could recruit with that mismatched skin graph is pretty amazing considering how shallow our culture is regarding appearance.
For Pete's sake, VT was a poly technic school, that really had no business becoming a major football power. Recruiting base? VT is in the middle of nowhere, hill billy country. It couldn't be more isolated from the poplulation base of Virgina.

Yep. If he actually wins a few national titles he would compare favorably to Bowden.

It's called "burning out." And most coaches burn out at least five years before they either retire or get sacked--and in the case of guys like paterno (absurd), bowden and fulmer, it was longer.

Wonder if VT will learn anything from the foolishness of Hamilton & UT? We had a great coach who had a mild rough spot & we threw him away. Hows that working out for us?
Beamer built VT from nothing...lefs see how long it takes them to forget that or see if they have been paying attention & have some patience.

Great post, but few on here will agree.

It is strange that no one here has mentioned that the first six years of Beamer's VT coaching career he had a .227 winning percentage.

The General is untouchable.

Now, having said that, Fulmer is by far more accomplished than Beamer. In a much better league too. UT had history but Fulmer enhanced it. Top five in the history of the league in wins. 6 East titles. 2 SEC titles. First BCS crown. Multiple first round picks. Record setting OC before all of that. Good line coach before that. 7 year win streak on Bama. Only 2 losing years out of 17 seasons in the best conference in the land. Beamer plays nobody in a nobody league and has relatively few accomplishments that compare. Not close in my opinion. At all.

if CPF was still here,he would be beating the Generals win record,a shame for 2 bad years

uhhhhh......no. Beamer is HOF material already he built that program. Not going to compare him now to Fulmers decline years.Trying to compare a coach against his competition in one conference vs another coach and his conference competition is apples and oranges He is having one bad season in last ten years.
Over the last ten seasons he is 22-18 vs ranked teams.

Got way too much of a fat turkey neck, Fulmer on had 2 chins.....

3rd degree burns as a kid, your looking at a skin graft. Beemer put VT on the map.

But like Fulmer, he may now be finding difficulties recruiting.
