Four thoughts about the game.

Anybody else think that if Josh Malone makes that catch, Vols win?

IDK? I think Missouri controlled the game for the most part; when a team dictates what you can do offensively it's tough. The turnover was huge to be sure though and likely took points off the board. I think they were the better team and we needed some breaks to go our way to win. We got the fake FG which was huge. I think if we had the Malone catch and they had given Coleman help then we would've been really close to a victory.

I do think Malone will get better, the kid is trying to do too much before he gets the ball caught. Idk if that's nerves or what.

Uh, we did not get our ass whooped.

We lost by 8 to the SEC East leaders with half our team sidelined.

Keep it in perspective.

mizzou sacked Dobbs six times and had twelve tackles for loss, pretty much puts it into perspective.

I thought the interior of the line did a worse job than the tackles. Their d-tackles were just stepping around guys.

Observation is correct but the details aren't.

It was mostly their DEs on stunts that were whizzing past our OGs. Jackson (RS JR, no youth excuse there) in particular got abused pretty bad.

Their DEs pretty much single-handedly won Mizzou that game. That and our WRs that apparently had cement hands.

Got outgained 410-280.

180-53 on the ground.

Gave up 8/17 on 3rd Down (for what?) and only got 5/15.

Committed 2 turnovers while getting none.

Got outgained in TOP by 5:00.

TIL that getting beaten in every single statistical category is "not getting whipped".

Fellow Vol fans, we got whipped by Mizzou on Saturday. Stop trying to fluff this one.

Technically we should've had the chance to tie the game up though. Like I said in my initial post the better team won, the fact that it was even close was mostly on the special teams generating points and setting up the defense in great field position. I don't know that I can say poor coaching when you get physically dominated like that and still have an opportunity albeit a very minuscule one to win the game.

Our O failed to capitalize on good field position, mizzou played well in critical situations and that's how you play winning football. Hope our guys learned from that.

It's basically Vandy from last year.

Defense gives up a long drive for a TD early but then plays well the rest of the game... until the very end when they again give up a big drive (in this case 2) for a touchdown.

Mizzou had 216 yards and 3 TDs in their first and then last 2 drives. They had 156 yards in their 10 drives other than those 2. I'm not counting the last one when they were just running out the clock.

Offense just plays flat and uninspired. Lots of drops. Sloppy execution. OL looks awful.

Seems this staff is good for one of those every year.

Looking forward to next season already. Wins against Oklahoma and Florida would be tremendous in where this team is headed. Losses would only be a set back and disappointment.

1. Our OL could not run block
2. Our OL could not pass block
3. Our tackles got whipped like Thanksgiving mashed potatoes
4. Dobbs ran for this life

Scary part, this same O-line will be back next year. Zero improvement through 11 games what makes anyone think 2015 will be any different?

Run Chicken Little!

I believe that is the question everyone should be asking. Where is the massive improvement that will be needed going to come from? If the O-line through 11 games is no better than they were in game 1, where do we find the improvement?

1)Missouri is solid at all positions. We maybe more talented in total but they were solid at every position and exploited our weakness to the fullest degree. The Oline getting blown up every play just can't be schemed around and I'm not sure how people cannot understand why this limits the play calling.

2)Time management was questionable. I love the staff but there were some question marks as far as time management and have been at other points this year.

3)Special teams were exceptional. We sometimes lose sight of how well a particular unit plays in a loss but I thought we executed very well throughout the night there.

4)Defense did a good job for the most part but the secondary got just torched. Coleman needs over the top help on every play or at least until the other team gets into the red zone. I know there's not much you can do to fix a whole unit that is underperforming like the Oline but I thought we could have done more to fix that one deficiency.

So in summation I thought the better team just got a win. I thought we did a good job in a few areas, questionable in a few as well. With better execution we likely win this game.

I think the interior gets better with some strength and conditioning and the experience of this year. I'm hoping Blair will come in and be able to finally get the LT position locked down. Get someone out of the competition for RT. I don't know, I guess I'll put in an "IDK how it can get any worse" response.

We had numerous issues along the Oline during Ja'Juan James freshman year and things got better as those players got older. IDK that we have tackles with as much potential as that group did though. This recruiting class will be key, hopefully we add one more tackle this class.

Realistically/theoretically, we don't / didn't need "massive" improvement to score 4 additional pts vs GA, 2 addt'l pts vs FL and 9 addt'l pts vs Mizz. Same goes for Team 119 (which really is Team 118, but very likely considerably improved by experience).

What VN doesn't need is a massive breakdown at this point. One more W and we might be playing ND, OKState or somebody in just a few weeks afterwards !!
