Here's what I think will happen. VT will stuff every aspect of Tennessee's offense. Question is will Butch adjust like most successful coaches or will he just be stubborn and lose the game.
My plan would be:
Start Dobbs - Two senseless picks and he's coming out/ 4 possessions without any productivity, he's coming out especially if VT is having success.
Game plan - Very aggressive offensively
70% pass 30% run because VT will try and stuff the run forcing UT to pass. Pass early and often so you don't feel like you have to start passing to be successful. Dink and dunk all day. It will open up the run some.
Every possession take one shot down field whatever down doesn't matter especially like 2nd and 2 play action
Play a lot of no back, spread the field to give Dobbs some running room. They don't do a lot of that so VT would likely not be preparing to see that a lot. Show regular formation and then audible a two back set where Hurd and Kamara goes into the slot receiver positions on the audible. Personnel wise VT would probably have a heavier set package on defense and this would spread the field opening up spacing for quick explosive plays.
Goa line - send in power I type formations and use quick misdirection on the snap and then some straight power runs. That assuming they make it to the goal line often. Hopefully they will.
Several middle screens slipping Kamara up front if VT over penetrates a lot. The bubble screen has very little production, scrap it
Move North and south. Tennessee tries to get the edges too much. Scrap the jet sweep. that play never produces a lot of yards. The quick hits to the TE was very good in the App State game. Nice to see them involved.
Overall - Put them in positions where their scheme doesn't defeat you. Put them in situations where if my player is better than your player , you will get beat! Be very aggressive and ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK!!!!!
