La Vergne safety Maleik Gray commits to Tennessee

Gray, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound athlete and Tennessee Titans Class 5A Mr. Football semifinalist in 2015, announced his commitment to Tennessee over social media on Sunday, picking the Vols over Florida State and Alabama.

“I’m thrilled to death that he’s made a decision,” La Vergne coach Stanton Stevens said. “To me, it didn’t matter where he went. I just want him to be happy. I wanted him to explore all there was out there. This is a testament to what is going on in Knoxville. They are competing with the best teams in the country and they won out. It should speak to where the program is headed.”

Gray grew up a Florida State fan and had the Seminoles as one of his favorites throughout the recruiting process.

“I’ll say this,” Stevens said. “I’ve been around a lot of coaches and coach (Butch) Jones has a different intensity,” Stevens said. “He has a different look about him. He has the look of a competitor and that inspires young men.”

That's a pretty good compliment for Jones from a High School Coach that sees a bunch of CFB coaches coming to recruit his players.

2 things...1) i'm glad there's more 4* or better talent in state than in the past. 2) i'm really glad to see/hear more of them staying home.

so glad not to hear the best players in state heading to USC or FSU or Notre Dame.

and there's a great crop of players in state this year, so hopefully this will be the first domino....

Outstanding!! I know it's been discussed somewhere, but how many can we sign this year? We'll have a good group lost to the NFL, so we'll need replacements. Another bumper crop by CBJ- Wow! The more he can bring in, the better we do. And I want to beat the Gators. Never seen a group of A-holes like them- Never. Sorry, Mt englich goes to s--t when I talk about them.

Come on September!!

Ok, help me out. On one of the links it shows that this young man and future Vol had offers from the following schools. So two questions:
1. Did I read this link correctly? That is one IMPRESSIVE list of offers!!
2. Do we really want this kid if he didn't receive an offer from Appalachian State??

Yeah, that is an impressive list. It's nothing out of the ordinary for a highly rated player though. It may be hard to believe, but there is actually players out there with better offer lists than his too.

Better? He can go anywhere he wants and he wants to go to UT. And he has started recruiting for UT.

Go Vols!
