Just read this over at Sports Illustrated.

With our 3 games-to-0 sweep of Vandy this weekend in baseball, the Volunteers have now swept the Commodores in all four of the major sports in a single academic year: football, men's basketball (2 games to 0), women's basketball (also 2 to 0), and now baseball.

This is the first time in history that has ever happened. For either program.

Vols...gettin' it done.

Go Big Orange!

Very surprised this is a first. Impressive that Vandy has found a way to compete as well as they have over the years.

What’s even more impressive about the baseball sweep it was at their place. First time Vanderbilt has been swept at home since 2012 which was against Oregon. And the first time an SEC team has swept them at home since 2009.

Let's wait till we get a sweep over Ga,Bammer, or Florida... then we will be gettin' it done.
Sure, Vandy is a lesser opponent. Sure, they're just our in-state little brother. Sure, it would be more momentous if we swept Bama, Georgia, or Florida (though sweeping Vandy in baseball is a little bit like sweeping Kentucky in basketball, or Bama in football; they've been very good in recent years).

I get all that. You're right.

But as an indicator of the direction of our athletic program, this is still huge. Any time your teams collectively do something that has never before in history been done, that's an indicator. Even against a lesser foe, it is a clear road mark that we're heading in a good direction.

So let's celebrate progress, and the fact that we're rising.

Go Vols!

Did we hit a three sport sweep in '09? (all but basketball)

I wonder how many other SEC teams we’ve ever done this to. Kentucky would be tough because you’d have to win at Rupp, but maybe during one of the years we were able to pull off a win there? Maybe Alabama when we had the streak over them in football? Or Georgia in the 90s? Ole Miss back when we played them in football every year?
