Tennessee softball co-head coaches Ralph & Karen Weekly announced the addition of four newcomers as part of UT's 2017 signing class on Thursday afternoon. "Karen and I are very excited about all four of these outstanding young student-athletes," Ralph Weekly said. "They are talented players who epitomize our core values. We look forward to their immediate impact both on and off the field."

Gabby Sprang (No. 3), Amanda Ayala (No. 37), Ashley Morgan (No. 70) and Brooke Langston (No. 91) are all included in FloSoftball's Hot 100 Rankings for the Class of 2017, giving the Volunteers the 12th ranked class in the country. This class will be eligible for competition starting in the 2017-18 academic year.

National Signing Day: Four years later, Rosemount's Gabby Sprang fulfills commitment

FWIW, Sprang apparently struggled somewhat last year, finishing 10-6 with an ERA of 0.72. She had 188 strikeouts, 40 walks, 10 hit batters, and gave up 55 hits in 117 innings.

Struggled with an ERA of 0.72? 55 hits in 117 innings? Did you forget to use the blue font for sarcasm? :)

Sprang will be an instant impact player. Morgan too, got to see her at a few tournaments over the past year as she played with Sprang. She is a lefty who can hit for power and average with excellent speed. I'm not sold on her pitching at the SEC level, at least as a big contributor, think she may contribute more with the bat. I remember seeing her catch, wonder if she will do that at UT.

Have not seen Ayala or Langston, at least have not known to look for them at showcases. I'm sure I've seen them play just wasn't looking for them.

Thanks.

Are those Sprang's travel club stats from this past summer in Georgia? Sprang is 6' tall and a lefty, and I imagine the key with her is getting her form/technique right. All four could be good. I have a sense, from reading about her a bit, that Ayala has excellent potential.

They're not bad stats, of course, but they're considerably less impressive than you normally see for an elite pitcher, especially one who plays in an area not known for its softball talent. Still, I believe she's a fantastic catch and will hopefully be a dominant pitcher at UT.

No, stats @ Rosemount HS last year.

Evidently Sprang was on a team that could not hit the ball and score runs. I will take an 0.72 era and 188 strikeouts in 117 innings anyday.

I'm sure Ayala will be GREAT but actually the prospect I was thinking of in terms of being special comes in next year--Maddie Pacini.

We need to keep the California connection going--they play outstanding softball in socal, as we all know, and it's crucial to keep the talent flowing into Ktown via that pipeline.

For Langston to be ranked #91 ... that's an elite list of schools. Oregon and Bama are in the WCWS pretty much every year, FSU was there last year and Tennessee gets there pretty consistently.
