Much will be made in the days, weeks, and probably years to come about Tennessee's luck on the final play of the game. However, it should not be forgotten that the final play was the 4th 50/50 ball in the end zone; Hurd's fumble recovered by GA, Michel's fumble recovered by Eason, sack strip fumble of Eason and TD recovery by Vereen, and finally the hail Mary.

For all of the whining we will hear about getting lucky with this win, let's keep in mind the final play simply balanced out the 50/50 balls in the end zone. We outplayed the puppies coming down the stretch and put ourselves in position to win.

It's great to be a TN Vol, GBO!

I dont care what anyone says championship teams always have to have a little luck on there side.. Also that was a heck of a catch for Jennings to go up and get that ball so i dont call that 100% luck.

I dont think its much luckier than Eason's drive right before it. I mean, sure, a Hail Mary is different than their lead-taking pass. But its not much different. He heaved a long ball way down the field that was caught for a TD. If you want to talk about good luck in this game, it went both ways. If you want to talk about bad luck, it went both ways. If you want to talk about wins, well, that only went one way. GBO!

And any time you go between the hedges and come out with a win, thats a good day. Its a tough place to play.

That's a pretty good observation. :hi:

A hail mary isn't a 50/50 play. The most likely outcome is nobody catches it.

I do agree that the team put themselves in a position to win. And like Jones says, good teams find ways to win games.

That was sort my thought as well. The 1st 3 plays the OP mentioned...the ball was at or in the endzone when the turnover happened. The Hail Mary was a different animal.

I have always heard that luck is preparation met with opportunity.

People say this, but there is very little true preparation for plays like that. You can't "Prepare" to hit an Ace on the river, you can't "Prepare" for a 1.1 second full court three point shot, you can't "prepare" to win a scratch off ticket even.

Luck is luck, and should never be confused with skill, because in a truly even world, luck is more important than skill when all sides are roughly equal talent or experience wise. You will never find truly great team that isn't lucky at least once.

What happened wasn't luck. The ball didn't bounce off of someone into Jennings hands. It looked like a called play. What I mean is that the play looked well practiced and was executed.

Ignoring the reception for a moment, that play showed us that with adequate protection and sufficient time Dobbs can throw the ball with accuracy; he put it exactly where he needed it. Yes, I know they didn't come at him, but the guy has an arm. That pass was equal to Eason's on the preceding drive. Would love to see the o-line come together over the next two weeks so we can see more of that. Cause we're gonna need it.

I'm almost speechless after a game like this. A lot of positives to take away and some really bad negatives too. The biggest negative for me is once again getting the ball late with an opportunity to ice the game and have poor clock management and three runs into the line called that got almost nothing. That really rankles me. Can't ignore letting a Georgia receiver get deep with little time on the clock either. I'm ecstatic we won but recognize the fortune in how we did it.

I'm pretty sure they practice "Hail Mary" passes like that each and every week. Or so CBJ says.
