Foster Needs To Be Benched

That's kind of out of context. My point was that they were definitely taunting. And that alone is a flaggable (is that a word?) offense. In the picture do you see the Florida guy with his hand on Arian to the inside of the "huddle"? Is that legal? I understand that the whole thing could've/should've been handled differently but as angry as YOU get about poor performance and a loss, I guess players are not allowed any emotion. Sorry, but I disagree with "excessive celebration" calls because this game is ALL about emotion. And frankly, I'd rather see some fire than no emotion altogether. And since we're on this subject, I guess you have no problem with the other four PF calls that were ultimately offsetting? Only Arian's because we were a yard away from a 1st down or is it because it was Arian? I guess fumbling the snap on the 2 is not disturbing to you since it wasn't Arian who fumbled it. And I guess the fumble in midfield was ok, since it wasn't Arian who did it. My point is....if that was the reason we lost, then the game has changed since I watched it last.

I know that you don't agree with what Coach Fulmer is saying or what I relay Arian to say, but what would you have them say? I guess I'm just not clear on what would satisfy you? At this juncture, I don't think anything will....which I respect, but you can't blast someone for what they say if NOTHING will satisfy you. That's a lose lose situation.

All the "ifs" that you outline are fair, but not productive. If he doesn't get that penalty we win the game. If he doesn't shove the Florida players off of him he gets no penalty. If he wasn't starting this team would be better. Surely you don't think that one penalty in the first quarter was the entire game.

I wasnt aware that we discussing the entire team's performance in this thread. This thread was originated to discuss Arian's performance. Since you asked, yes, I have a problem with the fumble on the goal line and the other personal fouls. I never said that the penalty was the entire game, as a matter of fact if you read my other posts, I said exactly the opposite. I do think we have every right to expect more from a senior who styles himself as a leader on this team. For the record, I do think this team would be better served by Arian coming off of the bench. Im not blasting him for what he said, just noting that it's oft repeated, but of little consequence. I just want our team to compete, instead of what we have encountered so far this year.

I think that Tennessee fans have a rich history of scapegoating players and coaches, regardless of outcomes or things like facts.

Casey Clausen took crap for years, and he played some pretty good football for us. Ainge was terrible, and Crompton was the future...that is until Crompton is terrible and you wish Ainge was around. Foster fumbles too much, except he fumbles probably as much as any other back, and the other backs get some sort of bye for their fumbles (Creer comes to mind). Dave Clawson is just awful, except that he isn't who threw balls into the ground.

All I'm saying is that our woes are a team effort, top to bottom. Singling out certain players undermines the truth that these problems are bigger than individual performance.

I had people trying to tell me that Foster should be benched because he fumbled on the goal line. It's become their (and many on here's) fall back talking-point, when reason takes a backseat to emotion-only b***h-fests. Little things like the truth don't get in the way.

How is it scapegoating the HFC if his function is to win football games for UT?

Any coach scapegoating going on has been accomplished by Fulmer to mask the fact that he hasn't been getting his job done.

Kelley Washington and Cedric Houston would like to have their names mentioned in there somewhere also.

I was referring mainly to Clawson, but Fulmer has gotten his fair share of complaints over single plays.

The overall product does fall at the Head Coach's feet. No denying that. However, to yell obscenities at Fulmer when there's a tipped ball that's intercepted is asinine, yet you hear it when it happens. Placing the offensive woes on Clawson is unfair, because we've yet to even see his offense. It's so watered down that it's a shell of what it should be. That said, he still oversaw receivers running around in space, but the combined efforts of the o-line and QB limit the advantage there. A lot of what we saw Saturday was the product of trying to run an offense dictated by the defense. 3rd and goal with no time outs dictates passing. 3rd and 17 when the team is down means passing, or scrambling and praying.

Our problems are a team effort. This is bigger than individuals.

It's a team effort, but there is only one guy with responsibility for all of it.

Hmmm. I don't think Cedric Houston took near the crap that Casey Clausen and Kelley Washington took.

Then lay it at the door of the locker room instead of at the feet of ONE player.

Im not laying it only on Arian, but he is supposed to be one of, if not the #1, leader among the players. you simply cannot expect to be successful and have your senior leader committing selfish penalties that hurt the team.

Al Wilson had a completely unnecessary personal foul against Peyton Manning of all people in one of his final seasons with the Broncos. The foul occured because Wilson was screaming and pushing after the play ended. Wilson is one of the greatest leaders UT has ever had. Coincidentally, his pre-game speech I'm sure contributed to Arian's firey attitude Saturday.

Can someone explain to me how a guy that implodes at the most crucial moments continues to start? He is supposed to be the leader of this team and he has a complete "me first" moment by getting a personal foul and killing us against Florida. As a leader is this really what you want? His production has been fine and I have been a fan of his in the past. I just cant stomach his game turning mistakes any longer. Give Creer and Poole more carries.

:nono:get outta here with that... the whole team played like crap... also the only time we saw poole play was against a bad UAB game... what are you thinkin... i do think his PF against FL was stupid, but maybe it was needed... we dont know what was said by spikes on the field... also if you wanna bench anyone it should be CROMPTON!!!! :boxing2:

you are a piece of work. as much as I would like to begin an insult fest with you, this time I'll refrain. I would like to hear how you've decided to defend Phil's part in the inept bumbling excuse for an sec football team that we have.

I have seen every snap of Tennessee football in person this year, and I am embarrassed of the product they put on the field. We are three games into a season and the results thus far are disappointing.

But that has nothing to do with you coming on a message board saying a player is making mistakes by putting himself above team.

That was to me the worst call all game and it felt like the were looking for something that to call. I don't keep up with the crews, but that crew did the UT-Bama last year game because when I saw the main official last week I thought oh crap, he did the Bama game and the next play they call that stupid penalty. I hope that crew does not do this Auburn game. Every big play UT made, some stupid penalty, felt a little like the Bama game last year but the Bama game took the cake, unbelievable to me and I rarely complain about the refs.

I still think Barry Sanders is as good as any back. He left early to keep from passing Walter Peyton's yardage record I thought.Plus he played with the joke of the NFL Lions team.

Secondly, Arian did jump the gun IMO.I don't recall anyone playing great in a 30-6 loss. I mean really. Back off and cut Arian some slack Rex.Good Lord.
