Junior tailback Arian Foster said Taylor's decision could affect whether he declares for the NFL draft.
Foster is a fourth-year junior, so most of the class he signed with will be gone next fall. So will Cutcliffe, who has not denied reports that UT running backs coach Kurt Roper and tight ends coach Matt Luke are going with him.
Taylor could be one loss too many.
"Coach Troop has a lot to do with my decision," Foster said. "I've talked with him several times. It's just ... I've got a lot to think about over the next couple of weeks."
Taylor, also UT's assistant head coach for player development, coached the running backs Foster's first two years in Knoxville before switching to receivers before the 2006 season. Taylor also is known nationally as a relentless recruiter who is adored by many players and their families.
"He's not even my position coach any more," Foster said. "He's just ... my friend.
"Let me choose my words right. We have a very experienced coaching staff, and he brings a lot of youth and new-age ideas to it. His energy level out there is uncanny."
One reporter asked if that meant the rest of the staff was "old."
"No," Foster replied. "I said experienced."

Sounds like Fulmer is not much of inspirational figure.

It's almost as if super trooper is using the players as leverage. Let him go to baylor and take foster and paige with him. They can chest bump after everytime oklahoma scores another touchdown on them. They'll be wore out by the second quarter.

IMO, anyone that wants to leave needs to go, declare or whatever. UT football will always, always be around and have it's loyal followers and find it's good share of great players, one way or another, to put on the field.Maybe Cut and Troop weren't giving some guys a fair shot at playing. Look at Tee Martin. We all know what he did when he was offered a chance to play. Now if we were talking about Jamal Lewis, Chuck Webb or someone who was GREAT,DOMINATING, I would hate to be having this conversation!

So wait, let's get this clear. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt because you said "almost as if". But please don't tell me you think Trooper is actively starting a whispering campaign among the players and trying to persuade them to leave the program. Please, tell me that is not what you are saying. :ermm:

Arian may have a career in diplomacy, if that NFL thing don't work out. I can see the headline now:

Good points. Austin Rogers dropped more passes than I care to remember. I've always wondered if he'd be starting next year anyway.

While I've supported AF, I can't ignore how much I liked Creer. If AF's leadership is to rally the team behind a coach who may stay or leave, then that makes me question his priorities. If upperclassmen want to show they can lead and keep the team focused on the bowl game, I'd say now is the time to do it.

Concerning next season, it's the younger talent that matters most on this team in the skilled positions on the offensive side.

Jerod Mayo may need to walk across the locker room and help get this offense focused on the game and not on all this coaching transition. It was the offense and not the defense that had the larger portion of the blame for failing to win the SECCG. They can worry about that after the game when they'll have plenty of time before next year's season opener to ponder 'what if' scenarios.

Nope, using the players as leverage to get the OC position at tennessee.

Ummm, wtf... it's too early for this. I've got two ways to look at this, 1st is this what the program has come to? We're so old and stale the players hold on to one guy? That being said, 2nd... If this is Foster's attitude, let him go .

I've defended Troop cause some people here don't like him cause he chest bumps of all things, but if this is his doing so he can get leverage, see ya Troop. Don't need anyone that badly.

Again, you truely believe that he is actively leveraging by using the kids? You really think he is planting things in their heads and persuading them to transfer if he is not offered the OC job?

If all these coaches supposedly want to leave or go with cut, that doesn't speak well for Tennessee or Fulmer, makes you wonder what may be going on.

It seems that way. Maybe not purposely but it seems he is trying to back cpf in a corner and say hey give me the job or i'am leaving. The way the kids are talking half of them don't want to be here if trooper is gone. So u tell me why i shouldn't think that.

Again... it all comes back around to Fulmer. Take care of the Fulmer issue and you resolve all of this.

Divided fanbase, divided locker room, divided coaching staff... shaping up to be a nice offseason.

Wouldn't you think it has more to do with the fact that OC, RB, and TE coaches are leaving and now possibly his former RB coach would be leaving. It would be a tough situation for anyone. Troop would bring a new dynamic outlook to our offense as long as PF let go of the reigns a bit.

when a position coach seems to be causing the issues you don't go after the HC. Hopefully TT is smart enough to realize it's not a battle he can win.

That may be true, but that doesn't mean that he's out there telling them to transfer or actively participate in some kind of campaign to get him the OC. Just because players support their position coach, that doesn't mean that he is feeding them ideas. Just means that they probably have a strong personal connection with the guy.

But to go out on a limb and say that Trooper is stirring this up in the kids heads is a bit presumptive at this point.

I don't want Trooper as the OC. Not because I think he wouldn't be qualified, but because he would be an inside hire and because Fulmer would probably have reins put on his playcalling. Let's not get it twisted, we need new blood in this program. I wouldn't care if Trooper leaves (I wish him the best at Baylor), but it would be a lot easier to swallow if we got someone outside of our family that had a new approach. If they promote Adkins, that would be no different than promoting Trooper.

We need new blood.

It's a shame if Troop is leveraging the players to obtain the OC job. If that's the case, see ya later troop. Good riddance. However, if AF is popping off b/c he's tight with his old position coach and just doesn't want to see him leave, it's a totally different situation.

I agree with the posters on this board that say UT needs the players that want to play for UT. UT should never be in the situation of convincing someone to stay and play. If their heart isn't right, you get what we had here in '05 IMO.
